Book 2 Chapter 12

Griffins-Harris Family
Caleb slowly rocked Sparrow. "See if he'll go down now." Caleb laid Sparrow next to Crane in the crib. The boys hated being separated when they slept. He covered him with the blanket and stepped back. Mack grinned and waved Caleb to come into the kitchen. "I wonder why he was cranky after his bottle." Mack shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe he's got gas." Caleb laughed and took the offered cup of tea.
Mack yawned. "This parenting thing requires too many early mornings." Caleb smiled behind his teacup. "Quit complaining Papa. You had a chance to be single again when the others from the Red River Commune came in and offered to take the commune kids into their group." Mack frowned. "They're crazy. They think they should have the kids to keep them in their parent's preferred lifestyle." Caleb put down his tea and hugged Mack. "Doesn't matter love. The children chose you over them. Even the girls. They want you as their Papa and me as their Dad. Your family is safe and secure Papa Bear so quit growling."
Paden walked into the kitchen followed by Jasmin, Hawk, and Raven. "Daddy! A growly old bear woke us up... Feed us please!" Jasmin giggled. This new family of hers was pretty entertaining and full of love. Caleb huffed. "I should make the growly old bear cook." Paden rolled his eyes. "Fruit Loops and microwave oatmeal here we come." Caleb laughed and went to the stove where the pans were already out. "How about french toast, some canned fruit, and sausage links?" "YUM!" Mack laughed "Quiet you four, you'll wake the rest of the tribe." Raven noticed a pair of heads poking around the door frame. "Too late Papa, we were followed."
Mack eyed the door. "Come on, get in here before you wake up Sparrow or Crane." Six little bodies ran in giggling to their Papa for hugs. "So what woke you little demons up this early? "Little Briar lifted his hands up to his Papa and opened them. "Founded it in the baffroom Papa." In his hands was a pulsing golden globule." Caleb gasped. "Mack that's one of the Iselli's children. How did it get here?" Mack took the small globule from Briar and brought it to his chest. "More importantly does Aledrin know one of his kids is on the loose."
"Only one way to know for sure." Mack kept his eyes focused on it while calling for Aledrin in his mind. 'Aledrin one of your children got loose.' 'How so?' 'Look through my eyes. Some of my little ones found this one in our bathroom just now."The little globule floated up and down excitedly. 'That small one did not get loose as you say. Yet again one of you has found another of our children. One of us is coming over for him.' 'While he's here have him go through the rest of the house looking to see if anymore ended up here.' The six children laughed as Aledrin mentally thanked them. Jasmin gasped as a glowing humanoid form passed through the wall into the kitchen and started searching the home. He returned with two others attached to his chest. Mack held his hands out and the little globule floated over to the other Iselli. Caleb waved as he departed the kitchen through the wall. "Be safe."
Ms. Opal's House
Opal Baker opened her eyes. What was that annoying sound? She sat up, slid her feet into her slippers, and grabbed her robe. The house was dark except for the one light in the hallway she left on. The sound was constant. Scratch, scratch, scratch. It was coming from the kitchen. Opal stopped at the closet for one of her last husband's golf clubs. He loved the game and she had demanded his lucky clubs in the divorce just to piss him off. The kitchen was dark. She crept up on the door and reached around the edge of the wall fumbling for the light switch.
She flipped on the light switch expecting some little rodent to go running. Instead, a paw withdrew from the bottom of the backdoor and a dog's head came in through the hole. Opal screamed and ran for the radio. The dog snarled and rammed its weight into the door. Others behind it could be heard growling and barking. She turned into the doorway of her little radio room and tripped over the rug falling forward and into the wall. She could hear the dogs crashing into the back door. With each crash, it sounded like the door was giving way.
