- Q.

“Joelle!” there was a scream and suddenly Cassie had flown at me and enveloped me in an enormous hug.

“Oh my God, you’re alive, you’re alive!”

I felt her tears wet my t-shirt and then she pulled away and kissed me so hard that I almost fell backwards.

My arms wrapped around her and I held her tightly.

“Cassie.” I murmured in her ear, hardly daring to believe it.

“Joelle.” She sobbed.

For a minute we just stood there like that, me holding her tightly in my arms, her sobbing in the crook of my neck.

Then I pulled away. Time to get down to business.

“You know about Ryan?” I asked. She nodded, wiping away tears. “We have to get her out of there.” I continued, firmly. She nodded once again.

“But how?” she then asked. I said nothing. I didn’t know how. I had no ideas. I plopped down on the ground and Cassie sat next to me.

“Damn.” I sighed. “What are we going to do?”

She shrugged, looking miserable and leaned against me. I wrapped my arm around her shoulders, but then she withdrew, looking at me with a confused expression on her face.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Is there something in your pocket?” She questioned. I furrowed my eyebrows at her.

“What? No.”

“There’s something hard there.” She pointed to my waist.

I gasped.

The gun.

The gun Trouble gave me, tucked into my jeans and hidden under my big sweatshirt. I held up the sweatshirt and Cassie’s eyes widened at the sight of the weapon.

“Uh, Joelle? What were you doing all these months?”

I gazed into her eyes. “You don’t wanna know.”

It was only then that I really realized how much had changed since I had been dropped off at Parker’s.
