Even though my words
carry pain and heartbreak,
I am not broken.
Even though my sisters
and brothers are harmed,
I am not broken.
Even though my queer
siblings are abandoned,
I am not broken.
Even though the world
keeps on hating my existence,
I am not broken.
I owe it to my black
forefathers and foremothers.
I owe it to my queer
freedom fighters.
Did you know that
black and queer have
the same number of
letters?
Then it can be no
accident that I turned
out to both of these
powerful identities.
No I am not broken.
I can't be. Seeing my
people prosper will
always keep me alive.
