1
Mother,
I wish you were so
I could've met you in person.
You are the reason so many
of you're children can be loud today.
2
Miss Marsha, I want to say
thank you. Thank you for
not backing down from those
unjust police officers. The riots
you fueled helped blaze a revolution.
3
So many people have forgotten
us. Forgotten you children of color,
left us in the sidelines, as if they
have forgotten the whole reason
they even have pride.
4
Your trans black daughters
have faced so much persecution
in my day, just like in yours. But
people are waking up and we
have something just as powerful as S.T.A.R.
5
Marsha P. Johnson,
you ushered in a new era of
queer liberation, fighting for
the people of color and the
trans lives forever.
6
Miss Johnson,
you will forever be remembered
among the Queer Hall of Fame
as the Mother to All of The Out
and Proud Queer Youth today.
7
And although you have since
passed away, as long as we
continue to chant your calls
and refuse to be silenced,
you will always be immortal.
8
You are the reason we can have
these parades. The reason why
we even have queer people on
screen. You helped us find our
voices in a time where yours was in danger.
9
We will never back down. The
movement towards acceptance
didn't end with you. We will continue
to ask them to see us as one thing
and one thing only: human.
10
We love you,
Marsha P. Johnson.
Your soul of resilience has
trickled down to us and
whenever we speak, you speak too.
