Almost a week later, Silverkit was up and active, and currently pouncing on Fiercekit, trying to pin him to the ground. He was already larger than she was and able to easily beat her. But she was lithe, nimble, and quick, so it was very simple for her to slip out from under him and deliver some swift, playful nips while he was disoriented. After some more wrestling, they broke apart, and Silverkit stood watching him, anticipating his next move.
His weight shifted to the left, but his eyes darted to the right. She knew immediately he was feigning. As he leaped at her right side, she quickly slipped to the left. And once he landed, knocked his paws out from underneath him. She leaped on top of him and planted a silver paw on his neck. He looked up at her with defeat in his eyes and she smiled smugly down at him. Silverkit stepped off of him and he rolled up. "I could've defeated you," he mumbled. "I just let you win." She laid her tail on his shoulder. "Sure, Fiercekit." she laughed and turned around, immediately walking into something solid.
She fell back on her haunches and looked up. Lionstar loomed over her, a smile warming his normally stern face. "You're quite the fighter, little one," he meowed. "I can tell you have a natural instinct for guessing your opponent's moves. That is a good skill that will be useful to you later on." Silverkit smiled shyly. "T- Thank you," she stuttered, nervous to be in the presence of her leader. Fiercekit was sulking off to the side, jealous of the attention given to his sister. Lionstar turned to him. "I can tell you're going to be a good fighter too, Fiercekit. You're already so strong for someone so young." Fiercekit looked extremely pleased with himself.
Lionstar stepped back and surveyed both of them. "In fact," he meowed, "I think it's time that you both became apprentices." And with that announcement, Lionstar turned around and padded back to his den. Silverkit nearly shot up into the air with excitement. This is it! She was overwhelmed with excitement. She could finally go on patrols, and train with the other apprentices. She could even train with Sprucepaw! And as suddenly as her joy had come, it ebbed away, and was replaced by fear at the thought of Sprucepaw.
He was still in critical condition. His infections had spread from his wounds to his chest, and he now lay quarantined in Oakfur's den, contaminated by whitecough. Silverkit was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't even hear the uneven steps of Beekit creeping up on her. Beekit swatted her ear and Silverkit jumped in surprise. "Beekit!" she exclaimed. "What are you doing out here?" Beekit smiled, looking pleased with herself. "Oakfur said I'm almost healed!
I can almost walk normally now." she meowed. Silverkit's gaze dropped down to the long thin scar running down her shoulder. Then she looked back up. "I'm so glad you're alive," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. She rushed forward and pressed herself into Beekit, who responded with a purr of delight. After a long moment, they stepped apart. Beekit's face lit up. "I heard you're going to become an apprentice," she meowed. Silverkit felt the familiar rush of excitement shoot through her at the thought of her apprentice ceremony.
Then another through crossed her mind. "You're becoming an apprentice too, right?" she asked anxiously. Now it was Beekit's turn to look anxious. "Lionstar and Oakfur said I've recovered enough, but I'm worried. What if I fall behind? I still have this stupid limp to worry about." Silverkit gave her a reassuring lick on her notched ear. "You don't have to worry about it," she meowed. "I'm sure your mentor will understand," Beekit sighed. "I hope so." she meowed. Behind them, Lionstar leaped onto the Highledge.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Highledge for a clan meeting." he yowled. Silverkit couldn't help but be nervous. She hadn't expected Lionstar to make her an apprentice so soon. Fiercekit ran up to them, panting with excitement. "Can you guys believe it? We're going to be apprentices!" He began to say something else, but was interrupted by Daisynose, who was frantically trying to groom him. "Look at the state of you all!" she exclaimed. "They really ought to give us more time to prepare!" she pulled a clot of dirt out of Fiercekit's fur with her teeth.
"What have you been doing? Wrestling with a mud fox?" Fiercekit didn't answer, as he was struggling to escape her swiping tongue. After she finished with all three kits, Daisynose herded them towards the circle of expectant cats. Silverkit and Beekit sat together, heads raised proudly, their fur shining like diamonds. Fiercekit was sitting slightly behind them, grumpily trying to mess up his fur. Lionstar look out across his clan, his eyes resting on the three kits. Silverkit couldn't believe how excited she was.
It was almost impossible to keep still. Silverkit felt confident, but as soon Lionstar called her name, she immediately felt nervous. "Silverkit," Lionstar called. Silverkit inched forward, shaking like a leaf in the wind. "You have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Silverpaw. Your mentor will be Spiritfall. I trust that he will pass down all of his remarkable skills to you." Silverpaw turned around at the sound of heavy pawsteps. The strong, cream colored warrior padded forward until he stood beside Silverpaw.
Lionstar looked down at Spiritfall, a pleased look on his face. "Spiritfall, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have received excellent training from Pebblespots, and you have shown yourself to be loyal and intelligent. You will be the mentor of Silverpaw, and I expect you to pass down all that you know to her." Spiritfall nodded solemnly and then leaned down towards Silverpaw. They both reached out their heads to touch noses, and Spiritfall's soft brown eyes met Silverpaw's ice blue ones. Straightening up, he looked down at her, a smile lighting up his face.
Silverkit almost couldn't believe how lucky she was. Spiritfall was one of the most talented warriors in ThunderClan, and he was one of the kindest, too. Together, they turned around to face the group of gathered cats. Flowerpaw stepped forward with a yowl of praise. "Silverpaw! Silverpaw! Silverpaw!" The rest of the clan almost immediately joined in, all chanting her new name. Silverpaw was so excited. She was finally an apprentice!
Lionstar continued on with the apprentice ceremonies for Beepaw and Fiercepaw. Rosecloud was assigned as Beepaw's mentor, and Sparrowflight was assigned as Fiercepaw's. And as the three siblings chanted their new names, surrounded by their clanmates, friends, and family,  they were simply happy, without a care in the world.
