Hello this is an interview with the writer of I Sold Myself...

What inspired the book I Sold Myself... and how did you even come up with the idea of it in the first place?

Well, for one thing, I was in a bit of a bad mood and I wanted to write something funny and seemingly light. I’d been writing stories about aliens and other creatures for years then, and I wanted a break from that and all the seriousness and the planning. I wanted to write a simple story about a girl and a boy, and about their relationship evolving. It always feel like the best part of a love story is what happens before the kiss, that’s why pretty much all Disney movies end with the kiss, because after that, it’s not interesting anymore. And there were so many stories on Wattpad where the characters got together on like the third chapter. I wanted something different.

How old were you when you began writing this book?

I was seventeen years old.

A the beginning when you were thinking about writing the book, were you planning on making any character supernatural?

Oh no, never ever. I always wanted humans. I only put ‘devil’ in the title because at the time devil were the trend on Wattpad and you didn’t have description or book covers, just your title to attract people. Plus I had the last chapter written, so I knew exactly what I wanted and what I wanted was a story as realistic as possible.

What inspired the characters Blake and Lexi?

Well, I have a friend who always confuses people’s name, so I thought one day, what if there was this girl and she didn’t even know the name of the most popular guy in her school, and that’s how Lexi was born. And then I thought, but what if that popular boy is more than meets the eyes, and Blake was born. I know a lot of people usually assume that a writer is exactly like her main character and that this story is in fact my story, but it’s not. I’m not Lexi. I’m reaaaally not Lexi. I’m probably more like Blake than like Lexi! lol

Usually in some books the girl is always the sad one with the bad past, what made you want to have Blake as this sad and angered person?

Well, I think both Lexi and Blake are sad, it’s just that the death factor usually makes it more dramatic. It’s not so much that I wanted Blake to be sad and angered, but I wanted two characters with problems, which they overcome in the end, and I wanted the girl to be the one that helped the boy for once, though Blake also helped her too. Basically, I wanted a healthy relationship where both people gave something to the other, made the other better.

If you had the choice would you change some things on the book e.g scenes, characters etc?

Not really. Well I’d do some serious editing, but all and all I’m happy with the scenes and characters I have in it!

I think everyone wants to know this question, how did you think of the character Daph because she is this incredible ball of energy?

Daph is exactly like one of my friend which I shall not name! lol Half of the stuff she says are exact quotes that I translated from French and put in the story. She’s a hippie and a Beatles lover and she hates cats and her boyfriend loves cats (he actually had a cat named Daphnee which is slightly ironic to me) It’s kind of funny, because when I was still uploading the story she was always going “So? What are people saying about me now?” And she keeps pushing me to write “Weird and Weirder” which will be Josh&Daph’s POV story. But I do have to admit that Daph’s got some of me too.

Who is you favourite character in the book and the one you most enjoyed writing about?

It’s kind of hard to answer. Probably Josh because I think he has a good outlook on life and he’s a complete lunatic! haha

The saddest chapters i have ever read in my life were the last two chapters in your book, tell me what made you write that and also did you cry while writing this too?

No, I didn’t cry. If I had cried every time I read that letter it would have become a problem. You have to take into consideration that, that letter was written pretty much at the same time as the first chapter, so I kept going back to it, re-reading it and making it fit with everything. I was more in an analytic state of mind when I wrote those last two chapters because they were basically written in the beginning and I wanted them to be as good as possible. I wrote those things, because I wanted people to expect the worse, and then be rewarded with ‘the best’ or as best as it could be for Blake and Lexi.

I read that you were planning on killing Blake until your friend forced you not to, what made you want to kill Blake in the first place?

Because I think killing main characters makes the story epic. Read Nicholas Sparks books! ;P haha And yeah, even though it’s heartbreaking, whenever I read a book with a main character being killed off, I get just so emotional, and that’s what I want to share with my readers; emotions. And I knew people would love Blake and I knew killing him would bring out colourful reactions. I like tragedy in a story. And I guess, I’m a little like Tristan when it comes to love story (if you’ve read my story Our Love Will be Remembered, you’ll understand! lol) But yeah… I didn’t kill him… yet!

You made a sequel for this book called The Spawns, do you find writing this book more funnier that writing the spawns?

Well, when I wrote “I Sold..” I didn’t have a care in the world, I was just building up my fanbase on Wattpad, I uploaded often and I had more free time. Now, I write the Spawns and I have a hectic schedule, some more pushy or demanding fans. But generally, I absolutely love writing the Spawns. And probably more than ‘I Sold..” because I think Jay, Beth and Cole are extremely fun characters to write about, and I like writing in three POVs. It makes it easier for me to stay focus on the story. Oh and I know exactly what happens next and I’ve got to say I’m quite excited to post it all… I have some pretty epic scenes.

What is you favourite Spawn character and why?

Lilibeth. Because, I don’t know, usually my characters are loud and almost obnoxious but for some reason when I write her she a tiny bit more articulate and she’s so easy to write, it’s crazy. And I love how selfless she is, even though she’s making bad decisions because of it, and how quiet and shy she is. Also, I know some of the things she’ll say in the future and I’ve got to say she’s got some of my favourite quotes. She’s just sweet and innocent and I love her for it.
