Forty Second chapter

Four's POV

I sit beside her, grabbing her hand, well, her fingers because an IV is connected to her hand and her wrist and almost every part of her body.

One hour later a nurse comes in and starts taking off the IVs from Tris' arms, the ones connected to the blood bags, now empty.

She throws them into the trashcan and leaves without a word.

Five minutes later she comes back with bandages on her hands. She starts lifting Tris' shirt up but stops when she sees me staring.

- Who are you? - She asks after clearing her throat.

- Tobias - I simply say.

- Emm I need to lift up her shirt so if you could please turn...

- I am her boyfriend - I say, interrupting her. In another situation it wouldn't have been a problem turning around but I didn't want Tris out of my sight.

She narrows her eyes as if she still didn't believe me.

- Really? - She asks. Her eyes frozen on me.

- Yes - There was doubt on my answer, I wasn't sure if we were still dating, hopefully the nurse won't notice.

- OK - The nurse says. She lifts Tris' shirt up to her chest and starts bandaging her damaged ribs.

When she finishes she pulls the shirt down and leaves.

I sit where I was before and grab Tris' hand.

- Wake up, please - I beg her in a whisper.

It was selfish of me but I really wanted her by my side, she would be in pain and all but I was desperate to see her beautiful eyes, even if they looked at me with hatred of love.

I sing, the song is Powerless by Linkin Park:

"Ten thousand promises, ten thousand ways to lose..."

I broke her heart, I broke her, I didn't keep my promises and because of that I was about to lose her

"And you held it all, but you were careless to let it fall..."

I promise her a lot of things but I failed to keep them.

I hear the door close behind me and turn around surprised by the sudden noise.

Zeke stands there, his hands shaking, his face pale and a thin layer of sweat covering his forehead.

- Hey man - He says, then proceeds to take a sit on the other side of Tris so now he is across from me.

- Hey - Is all I say, looking at everything but him.

- So, what's the damage? - He manages to choke out, trying to control the sobs that were slowly making their way out of his mouth.

I take a deep breath, this isn't my favorite topic right now, but I owe it to him, I basically cheated on his "sister" and I am responsible for her actual state.

- She twisted her neck and has a sly concussion, second degree burns, a punctured lung, 3 broken ribs and she lost a lot of blood - I tell him, I still couldn't assume everything so I am not surprised by his silence.

- Any brain damage? - He asks, stroking Tris hair in a brotherly way.

- No - I say.

We stay in silence for what seems like a million of years but then he speaks.

- This is your fault - Zeke says, his eyes cold as ice.

That's when I lose it.

- DON'T YOU THINK I ALREADY KNOW THAT!?? - I yell, standing up from my chair and going towards Zeke - IT'S MY FAULT, I KNOW!! BUT I LOVE HER!! SO IT HURTS ME TOO!.

He seems angry, I can almost see steam coming out of his ears.

- IF YOU LOVE HER THEN WHY DID YOU CHEAT ON HER!? - He yells with equal force.

- I DIDN'T!!.

At this he looks confused and opens his mouth to say something when someone clears its throat, Dr. Rogers.

- I am sorry but I am going to take Tris' collar off so I need you to leave - He says.

I look at Tris one more time and then leave the room with Zeke trailing behind me.

I lean against the wall and listen as Zeke explains everything to Shauna.

I hope they can forgive me.

I hope all the gang can forgive me.

I hope Tris can forgive me.

But I do not hope I can forgive myself, because I won't, I can't.
