I don't see Noah for the next week. Or, to be more exact, I avoid Noah for the next week. After he pool incident, I'm stubborn that I won't become another one of "his girls".
"Honestly," Max sighs as he lays on my bed, head resting on my legs as he slurps on a cherry slushee. "If Noah Thurman asked me out, I'd say yes before he could finish his sentence." I roll my eyes and flick his forehead, taking a sip from his drink.
"That's because you're desperate, Max. What about that guy from your Psych class?"
He shook his head. "Straight."
Days like these are nice. The after exam season haze has begun to set in as we finally begin to relax for the holidays, and our textbooks are forgotten in our bags. We can just drink slushees and lay on my bed and listen to my old Rolling Stones vinyls on my record player.
"I see you're still wearing the necklace," he reaches up to flick the rose hanging from my neck with a sly smirk, and I shove him.
"It's a nice necklace, that's all, idiot." He rolls his eyes, obviously not believing me. "What are you doing over break?"
"I don't know. Don't wanna go home, or my parents will probably harp on me for not having a girlfriend, so I guess I'm crashing at yours." Max's parents have never been the most accepting over his sexuality. I just nod, running my fingers through his hair.
There's a knock on my door. "Come in!" I yell, eyes closed as I lay back against my pillows. It's probably just Will. Wait, since when does Will knock-
"V?" My eyes shoot open as Noah pokes his head in. His hair's wet like he just showered. "Oh shit, am I interrupting something?" I take in what he's seeing, me and Max stretched out on my bed with his head on my thigh and my hand in his hair. His jaw ticks. I can't figure out why.
"Uh, no, what's up?" My face is probably 16 shades past red now.
"A guy I know who goes to your Uni is hosting a end of finals party, or some shit like that, tomorrow, and I was wondering if you wanted to come?" He's picking at the V-neck of his shirt, and I can't help but wonder why he's nervous.
I'm about to politely decline, when Max sits up and clears his throat. "She'd love to come."
"Great, and oh hey man, you're invited too. It's at Leo Cortez's place, I'll text you the address."
"Since when do you have my number?" My mind goes into panic mode. Did I give him my number and not remember it? Did he steal my phone.
"Will gave it to me when I got back. For emergencies." He smiles and waves to Max again before leaving, the door shutting quietly behind him.
Max practically screams as he shakes my shoulders. "Noah motherfucking Thurman invited you to a college party, this is a goddamn sign!"
"It means nothing," I sigh, falling back on my bed and stealing his slushie again. "He only asked because Leo Cortez goes to the same college as us." But my words have no effect, he's already marching into my walk in closet to pick an outfit for me. I feel a headache coming on as my phone rings.
unknown number- 3482 West Crescent Drive, LA
unknown number- this is noah, by the way :)
V- yeah I assumed
noah thurman- so I know your friend wants you to come, but do you really want to? It's really no pressure.
V- it's whatever, I could use a party after this exam season.
noah thurman- great
noah thurman- would've missed my best girl
And just like that, I'm falling back in and I can't stop myself. My brain stops functioning as I read his last text and I turn my phone off, rolling onto my stomach.
Noah Thurman, what am I going to do?
