Weeks have passed since Valencia has seen or spoken to Nikki. However, that hasn't stopped her from thinking about him.

A few days after the party, Valencia looked Nikki up in the phone book and memorized his number. She didn't mean to but since she tried calling him so often, it became engrained in her memory. Everyday she would pick up the phone and dial his number but she would always hang up.

In the weeks that have passed, the Crüe finished and released their debut album. It was aptly named Too Fast For Love. When it came out, Valencia went to the nearest record store and bought it. She listened to the album for hours that day.

Onyx had just started working on their third studio album: Welcome to Dreamland. From what Valencia could tell, it was going to be quite an experimental album. Their record label, Elektra Records, didn't seem too thrilled about the idea.

Celeste and Tommy were in a seemingly committed relationship. They spent every second they could together and were practically inseparable. It definitely made Valencia slightly jealous.

Celeste had convinced A&R man, Tom Zutaut, to look into Mötley Crüe. The meeting Zutaut orchestrated between the Crüe and the Elektra executives was today.

Celeste was freaking out. "What happens if they fuck it up?"

"I'm sure they'll be fine," Valencia said as she plucked at her guitar strings. "I know the boys can be crude, among other things, but I highly doubt that they would mess something like this up."

Celeste looked up at the clock. "They should be out of the meeting by now. I told Tommy to call me when they were finished."

"Does he know you're here at my apartment?"

"I told him to try my apartment and here just in case." Celeste paced the room.

"Can you stop doing that? You're making me anxious."

"Sorry." Celeste stopped and sat down on Velencia's bed.

After a few minutes of silence, Valencia's phone started ringing. Celeste picked it up in a hurry.

"Hello? Tommy? How did it go? What? Oh my God, Lane! I don't care about what's going on in your life right now! I'm waiting for an important call!" Celeste angrily hung up the phone. "What a dick! Always calling at the most inconvenient time!"

Valencia laughed and continued to strum her guitar. She had a nice riff going on but she didn't know what she wanted to use it for.

Celeste looked at the clock again and groaned. "Shit. I have to go. If Tommy calls, can you tell him that I went to the studio?"

"Of course I will."

"Thanks!" Celeste grabbed her jacket and walked out of the bedroom. Valencia could hear the front door slam shut.

A few minutes later, the telephone started ringing. Valencia reached over and lifted it from the receiver.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Val! It's Tommy. Is Celeste there?"

"No. She just left. She's on her way to the studio."

"Oh fuck. Well, I guess I can tell you the news first. We got signed!" Tommy shouted excitedly through the phone.

"Oh my God! Tommy, that's so exciting!"

"I know! I can't wait to tell Celeste!" Valencia heard whispering in the background.

"Hey, Tommy. Is everything okay?"

"Yeah. Uh...Nikki wants to talk to you," Tommy said.

Valencia's heart started pounding in her chest.

"Hey, Val. It's Nikki." His voice sounded hoarse, as usual. "I have some great news: we got signed by Elektra today."

"So I've heard. That's amazing, Nikki. I told you it would happen. I'm proud of you," Valencia said with a smile on her face.

"Thanks." A few seconds of silence passed. "I've been meaning to call you but with the album release, I've been really busy."

"I can imagine. I bought the album and it's truly incredible."

"Well, we couldn't have done it without you."

"I highly doubt that, Nikki." Valencia played with the telephone cord. "I've been meaning to call you too."

"What's been stopping you?" Nikki asked.

"Oh, I don't know. Nervousness, I guess."

"I make the great Valencia Phoenix nervous?" Nikki laughed.

"Yeah, something like that."

"Hey. Uh...I was wondering if you wanted to celebrate the signing with me."

"Let me guess, a party at your apartment?"

"No. Something along the lines of dinner or something. I don't know," Nikki suggested.

"With the rest of the Crüe?" Valencia asked.

"I was thinking it would be just you and me but if you want to be with the others that also works..." Nikki trailed off.

"I would love to go to dinner with you. Does Italian work?"

"That sounds great. I'll pick you up tonight at your place?" Nikki asked urgently.

"It's a date." Valencia stopped herself. Did she really say that it was a date?

"It's a date," Nikki repeated. "Oh shit. I gotta go. Vince is drunk and is starting to destroy things. See you tonight, Val," Nikki said quickly.

"See ya, Nikki," Valencia said and hung up the phone.

She was so excited for tonight but there was still hours left until he would pick her up.

Valencia picked up her guitar and started playing the riff again. After her phone call with Nikki, she knew exactly what she wanted to use it for.
