Leila watched the flames dance.

She watched as the Blue Fire consumed the small pile of dry leaves. She watched it grow, slowly engulfing the tall oaks that surrounded her in the dense forest. Leila wasn't scared, she was intrigued. Intrigued by the scorching heat, by the feeling of having been the cause of the growing fire. Every tendril in her body was surging with electricity. Leila laughed, she was unstoppable; she felt power, she felt happy. . Leila laughed as the fire raced up another tree. She extended her fingers, as if reaching for an apple, and lighting shot down from the sky. The lighting struck another tree, igniting it. This was the gift of Blue Fire, a gift that Leila claimed as her own. From bloodline to bloodline, these gifts were kept sacred. A fracture in her family tree, Leila was the one of Two Bloods.

Tory Della woke up gasping for air. Her heart was beating a thousand beats per minute and her room was spinning. Tory felt as if she had been there at the fire, watching the mysterious girl destroy the forest.

She glanced at her clock, it read 6:30 a.m. She had to wake up her best friend, Helena. They had a small arrangement where she would text her good morning every morning in return for boy help. Helena had a way with boys, speaking to them with her body. She couldn't walk down the hallway without stealing a few glances. Though Helena could get any boy she wanted, she had her eye on one in particular, Caleb.

Caleb was the boy that every girl wanted. He ran track and was constantly running through every girl's mind. It just so happened that Caleb was best friends with the boy Tory had a crush on, Tyler. Helena wanted Caleb, but he wanted a girl named Carol. No one except Tory knew that. She talked to Caleb only to get closer to Tyler, but it wasn't working out well for her.

Tory stood up quickly, her head beginning to ache with all the high school love triangles that were going on. She texted Helena quickly, got in the shower, and began to think about the mysterious Leila.

After concluding that the mysterious girl had been just a hallucination, Tory got dressed and made her way downstairs. Like every school morning, Tory's house was empty. Her twin sisters had already left for their zero periods and her parents had left for work. Wearing only a plain t-shirt and faded jeans, Tory wasn't one for style. That was probably one of the reasons Tyler didn't even notice her.

She wandered through her kitchen's cabinets and got her breakfast ready. She ate her cereal glumly, thinking of Tyler the whole time.

After washing her bowl and getting her things together, Tory got ready to head for school. On her way to the door, she heard a thumping noise coming from her basement door. Tory felt her body freeze, every nerve on edge. She had always hated scary movies and didn't really feel like having a confrontation with Freddy Krueger.

The thumping stopped, but Tory's heart was beating wildly in her chest. She was gripping her car keys so tightly that the blade was digging into the skin of her palm. She gripped her school bag as if it were the only thing attaching her to reality and slowly walked towards the basement door. It was so quiet that the only sounds in the house were the small footsteps of Tory's shaky feet on the hardwood floor.

Standing in front of the basement door, Tory reached for the silver doorknob. Her vision was getting blurry and her hands were so sweaty that she felt the keys slip out of her hands. They landed on the floor and the sound was like a thousand dishes crashing onto the floor. Tory took a deep breath and almost burst out crying, the thumping had resumed. It was getting louder, each individual beat taunting Tory.

She put her pale hand on the silver doorknob, every muscle in her body taut and ready to sprint in case something went wrong. She began to turn the doorknob and the thumping immediately stopped. Feeling panic flooding her head, Tory opened the old door with a loud creak. A blast of cold air was thrown at her, followed by devilish laughter. Tory felt every bone in her crumble and she felt the cold disappear into her heart. Tory began to shake violently, feeling as if another force were taking over her body.

After the shaking stopped, Tory felt broken. Her heart was beating so fast that it could be passed as flying. Tears were running down her face, dripping onto the floor. The door to her basement was still open, but there was no cold air or evil laughter coming from it, only darkness.

Tory stopped crying and realized that she was going to be late for school. Then, she realized that she had a free first and didn't have to go in until nine. She made a mental note to sleep in on A days. Gathering her car keys and schoolbag, Tory headed for the door. She stopped dead in her tracks, feeling something switch inside her. She spun on her heels and walked towards the basement.

Tory tried turning around, but she felt detached from her body. She tried screaming out, but her mouth wasn't hers. Tory ran down the stairs into the darkness, not missing a single step. The door closed shut behind her. Tory tried crying, but her face didn't obey, it was set in a determined mode. Tory reached the middle of the basement and stopped. She slowly began to regain control of her body, but didn't turn to run. Something told her that if she tried leaving, she would be brought back down even more violently than before. Tory felt a strange humming in the air, as if it were charged with electricity.

The humming grew louder and Tory had to cover her ears so she wouldn't scream in agony. The humming reached a peak and then died out. Tory had closed her eyes so she wouldn't be staring into utter darkness. Opening one leaf-colored eye Tory gasped in shock. Piercing the darkness were bright green neon lights.

They danced on the walls and jumped off Tory's skin. The lights spun themselves into Tory's hair, embracing her chocolate locks with their emerald luminescent. The devilish laughter returned, louder and stronger than before. The sound replayed itself over and over in Tory's mind, the noise so close and so loud that Tory was sure someone was bound to hear. She opened her mouth, ready to let out a bloodcurdling screech.

Her scream stopped short when she saw the image of the full length body mirror in front of her. The menacing laugh, the one that had probably traumatized her, was her own. Horror apparent on her face, the girl with chocolate curls watched as the menacing laugh continued. When it ceased, so did the green lights. Tory felt drained, her whole body was sore. Grabbing her schoolbag, she sprinted to her car. I'll just study until class starts, she thought nervously. Composing her face, Tory drove with a controlled smile all the way to Jackson High. She didn't even acknowledge the now irritating itch she felt on her collarbone. But everyone else at Jackson High did...
