I didn't ask for everything
To be taken away.
But I didn't ask to find you either.
I didn't deserve any of this,
It wasn't my idea.
I followed the path that was carved for me,
Yet somehow I ended up here.
Stripped of everything I knew,
Somewhere that didn't feel like home.
A prisoner in my own confusion,
Shaken and all alone.
But off the path I saw you ignite,
An ember that was my guide.
I followed the trail left by your fire,
A spark that never died.
The only one to understand,
You became my solace in the night,
Together we taught ourselves to regrow,
In order to see the light.
We found stars and we found flowers,
We found art, we found a voice.
We found light at the end of the tunnel,
Discovering we have a choice.
This isn't the world that kept us trapped,
Now we're proud where we are.
We're still here, but nothing's ever still,
Now this can be ours.
A/N: So this chapter ended up being a 'Monster Buddies 2.0', which is something I never knew I wanted until now. I was working on this one for a while, but something about it didn't feel right. Then it hit me that this is like the other half to 'Monster Buddies', the same story but from the other person's perspective. So after that whole moment, *gestures vaguely to above chapter* this is what we're left with.
