~*~*Berries and Fish*~*~*
*Helmer's Point of view*
We had been walking for more than five days without rest. We have found no food, no water, and are now slowly dying. In addition to that, I am itchy all over, and mutant bugs have been attacking us. We hope to find a shelter, anything at all, to save us from this unescapable doom that has caught us in it's endless web of problems.
Mutant Cat Monster had told us that in about ten minutes we shall approach a stream that has some food. It has been two days.
We are going to die. Very soon.
Suddenly Spectrum exclaimed, " I can hear water running! " Mutant Cat Monster smiled proudly at her and nodded. "We arrived faster than, tsa, I thought we would have."
My stomach rumbled. " I hadn't eaten in a week! I'm starving to death! I put dibs on eating first! " Spectrum rolled her eyes. " It has only been three hours Helmer. Have you grown up in a Palace or something?"
I straightened my back. " Yes. In fact I did. I am the son of King Passcode the Seventy First. " Spectrum blew out of her mouth loudly. " I wouldn't be surprised if you were."
Mutant Cat Monster added in her thoughts. " Tsa, of course he's joking . Now, tsa, if you're starving, please follow me." I trotted after MCM, holding my stomach.
Spectrum jumped over the small stream, quickly followed by MCM. "There! She said, pointing at a very suspicious looking bush, long dark trees growing beside it. "Raspberries. Tsa, I'll pass. " MCM sighed and went up to the stream. "I'd , tsa, much rather have a big juicy, tsa, rabbit, or perhaps a mouse. Spectrum, tsa, make sure Helmer doesn't do anything okay? I'll go, tsa, hunt for a while. Tsa, stay here. "
Spectrum smiled. " Sure Tsapa." MCM went off to hunt. Then Spectrum turned to me . " Your majesty, would you care for some raspberries?" She asked, bowing to the ground. " Or is that too common? Should we get you some exotic fruit that is found only in a very mysterious place? Filled with dangerous creatures and guarded by the evil Mango himself? "
I pouted. " Go away. You're annoying." I went up to the bush, Spectrum, with a grin on her face, followed me and started picking them. "Careful, stinging nettles are usually nearby raspberry plants." She warned me.
"Are you sure that's eatable? What if it's some kind of poisonous plant?" I glanced at the raspberries, and my stomach growled in frustration. " Besides, aren't raspberries supposed to be in shops? "
"Honestly, Helmer, have you ever gone camping? Or at least went out into a forest? At least once?" I shook my head. "Nope."
Spectrum rose her eyebrows. " Well that explains why you don't like this." Collecting as much berries into her hand as possible , she went to wash them in the stream. I sat down on the grass, after carefully making sure there were no insects. She came back. " Do you want one? " She asked. "No! It's wild and probably poisonous." My stomach did not agree with me. "Are you sure you don't want one? " Spectrum asked again, this time laughing a bit. " Fine." I quickly snatched one and swallowed it. It wasn't that bad actually! " Care for another? " She murmured. I took everything and stuffed it into my mouth. "This," I said, " is delicious."
Spectrum didn't seem to mind that I took everything, and just went to get another batch. Finally in lumbered MCM, an animal hanging in her mouth. I wasn't sure what type of animal though.
*Spectrum's Point of View*
"Hello Tsapa!" I said, washing the second batch of berries. " What did you catch?" Tsapa just ignored my question and walked up to a spot farther away next to the stream, and spit out her prey into it. " Tsa, sorry. I had to, tsa, get rid of this rabbit to talk. " She said, cleaning her paw. When she finished, she fished out the rabbit and lay down. Then she sniffed the rabbit around and dug her fangs into it. "Splendid. Tsa, simply splendid." She raised her bloodied mouth. " Would you, tsa, like some?"
Helmer shuddered. "No! Yuck rotten rabbit meat. RAW rabbit meat! Blegh!"
I looked uneasily at the rabbit. " Uh, I think I'll just eat the raspberries." I said.
"Oh well. Tsa, your loss." What Tsapa said was true. Me and Helmer couldn't survive by eating raspberries only. Maybe some fish would do the job?
"Hey Tsapa!" I called out to her. "Yes?" She asked. "Can you catch some fish?" She shook her head. " No! Tsa, do it yourself." "But-" " But nothing. Go and, tsa, get the fish." I crossed my arms. " Tsapa if you catch it, it'll be much quicker and-" She interrupted. " The , tsa, fish are in the river Spectrum. "
"Ugh! Tsapa listen ! We need to hurry because-" "The fish. Are, tsa, there." She said back, pointing at the stream with one paw. My frustration level was growing. "Helmer! Tell Tsapa that you want to eat!"
Helmer just shrugged and replied, " Well, honestly, Spectrum, have you ever heard of a fishing rod?"
I threw my hands into the air. " I give up! You guys are ridiculous!" I stomped into the forest, trying to find a good enough stick. Finally I found one. It wasn't too long or too short, and all it needed was a little work at the top, and it'll be perfect. I reached into my hair to take out my diamethysts. Why can't I find them? Wait.... The camp! Crap I forgot all about them! No! I panicked.
