"so, would you mind telling me why you were crying?" taehyung finally asks her when he finds it himself hard to spit out those words.
now that they're finally sitting on the bench in the middle of a park with only a warm cup of hot cocoa to warm him up and coffee for jaerin to stay awake, it helps them reduce the shivering cold that besets on them.
while their walk earlier made jaerin a bit more comfortable with him, she still feels very much attached and sensitive over the subject itself, but then she remembers how kind and respective he is towards her in the short amount of time spent.
whether it's asking her if she was cold every ten minutes or if she was tired from the walk, jaerin still wants to answer his question. in a way it is to repay his kindness.
taehyung could see how much his question affects her and he couldn't help to feel the guilt from trampling him, just by seeing how her expression downcasts in a blink. he's blaming himself. "look, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to. walking with you was enough for me." taehyung lifts up his hand to calm her by the shoulder but stops midway and pulls back as it crumples into fist.
jaerin shakes her head repeatedly before looking up, to face him. "no, it's okay. we're staying nameless anyways." she smiles for a second.
only you, jaerin. you don't need to know mine. "right!" taehyung exclaims in agreement, clasping his hands together.
"i- somehow, i relate to the story, well in a way some of it feels like my childhood."
"i was sent to boarding school at the age of nine. a school of two percents, i guess you could say it like that. you could possibly tell from my first sentence that i must've had an unhappy childhood, you're true."
hearing her last words taehyung nods and tries to understand her case with more attention. "so, a part of me is a bit jealous of simba's fun and happy childhood, but a part of me feels his grief and loneliness when he needs his parents care and love."
"when people asked me if i'm proud of myself and carrier, i would say that i'm proud of my carrier and not myself. i guess that's when i knew i regret not being so close with my parents. i never had the amount of time to say how much they meant to me, how much i love them. even though it's true i've reached my dreams of being someone i wanted to become since i was a kid, my childhood and youth feels bland, monotone. reading books and writing essays for more than a decade definitely isn't fun." jaein finishes her sudden confide as her eyes glosses with the stars twinkling and snow descending like crystals in the moonlight.
taehyung now understands why she seems to be very determined about her job and how she would always tell people to spend lots of time with their loved ones at the end of her interview every time she appears on national tv.
"what was your dream?" taehyung asks as if he doesn't know anything about her.
"an astronomer and before you ask, it's not that fun nor it is dreamy." she answers, lightheartedly with such savviness it lightens the rueful mood that surrounded them earlier.
"i guess that's a new fact for me." taehyung mumbles and he's sure jaerin hears it.
when their drinks are almost finished they decide that it's time to finish their late night talk and taehyung insists to walk jaerin home. while jaerin continues to refuse his offer saying that it'll be troublesome, taehyung says that where he lives is close by and he doesn't mind it.
deep down he knows that walking down the person he gets to know more out of luck is something really rare and an occurrence unable to ever happen again in his life — an occurrence under the light of a blue moon.
