Nineteen
Jenny kept me updated with the progress of training. With only a few more days until their competition, I wanted to be able to give them advice on top of what Tina was telling them. Tina needed to take control of the team and make sure that everyone was confident in what they needed to do.
I trusted her. She was a phenomenal swimmer but she also had spent many years researching the science behind athletes bodies and the craft needed in swimming.
I wasn't allowed to even come into the building until my dad had worked his magic.
Even if they did eventually agree to let me back in, it wouldn't be until next week and honestly, it's driving me crazy not being there in person with the competition so close.
"This is not how I expected my day to turn out," Jacob said from beside me as he drove into the campus.
After a restless few nights I decided to risk my job even more by sneaking into campus. Every time I train with them it's just us, the only person I don't want to see me is Michelle. I just know that she will try to get me into trouble. More trouble than I already am.
I pulled at my large hoodie "Count yourself lucky, I could've chosen anyone" I said to him. He pulled into the car park and parked the car a few 100 metres away from the main entrance.
"Yeah but only because Theo couldn't come," he grumbled, opening his door. I don't know why he's so bothered it's not like he had anything better to do. FIFA isn't exactly a great use of his time on his day off.
He claimed it was good practice for football but to me, that just sounded like an excuse. If he said it was his way of escapism and a way to relax away from training, I would have understood. The only type of practice that is beneficial is physically out on the football field or in the gym.
He was right though I had texted Theo asking for him to help me, but he had scheduled a day to look around schools with his ex for Dillon to go to nursery. I had to come up with another idea.
He made sure to tell me how pissed off he was that he had to spend his day doing that, but I agreed to meet him later, sensing that he might need a good distraction from his ex. All I know is that he had a very and I mean very toxic relationship with her so spending that much time with her is never good.
"Maybe if you're good I'll let Jenny spend the afternoon with you" I knew it was bad making these deals with him but if there's one way to get Jacob to do anything for you this is the way to do it.
His eyes lit up at the mention of it. I just hummed as I followed him inside, his steps appearing lighter.
Worked like a charm.
Those two are good for each other. They respect each other's success and know that they shouldn't get in the way of each other's training but sometimes it's good to break off from it and relax.
"I purposely didn't tell them just so I could record you yelling at them," he says pulling out his phone. I watch as opens up his camera as we reach the pool doors.
I rolled my eyes at his antics but went into coach mode quickly.
"You can't share it anywhere; I'm not supposed to be here," I said, grabbing his arm.
"oh, I know coach, it's for my own amusement," he says getting into position again. I passed him as I walked into the room. "Whatever gets you off Jacob" I mumbled, causing him to choke and cough out.
I pushed the door open praying to see them all training hard. They have posted a lot on Instagram of them all training, knowing that I will be watching.
