Twenty Six

" I was at the funeral but with all the people there I stayed hidden. There's no surprise with the number of people that came to pay their respects to him. He was one hell of a man" Mateo said as he drove both me and Aika to the airport.

" He really was," I mumbled as I looked out the window.

After the two days I spent here in Japan. I found it extremely difficult to want to spend any more time here even though I love being in my grandfather's home. Surrounded by my family, where my roots were. I constantly kept thinking about the team back in London and wanted to be back at training sooner than I originally wanted.

We spent the whole evening talking about my grandfather, Matteo had some interesting stories that he was dying to tell me and I was more than happy to listen to and so was Aika actually. The best kind of healing I believe is when you relive those fond happy memories. A lesson which I'm glad Aika already has learnt at such a young age. Loss of a loved one is one of the hardest kinds of pain you can go through. But it's the lessons learnt that last a lifetime.

Theo's family were overdue for a visit to the city of London so what better way to surprise Theo. Somehow they had no idea about the incident back last month. I don't think Theo speaks to his family enough. But I am guessing that he didn't want them to worry, with them being so far away.

Since Aika is coming back with me there is no reason to stay much longer, thankfully everyone at the house understood the importance of me getting back to my job. But I would be sure to come back very soon.

Tina was doing a pretty good job in managing everything back home but from Ryan's messages, I could tell that she was under pressure with it all.

Melissa got in an accident travelling to training but thankfully she was not seriously injured, just a few bruises from falling off her bike.

I turned back to the front when I realised Chloe had asked me another question. " Why did you two take a break then, what did he do this time" She asked me.

" Chloe, have some manners will you" Justina, Theo's mom said lightly slapping Chloe for asking me such personal questions.

"No, it's okay. Honestly it wasn't something that serious. It wasn't a surprise that another girl was the cause of it but I think Theo didn't agree on my behaviour with how I dealt with it."

"Above everything though Theo is a great friend of mine" I said honestly, I doubt I should lie to his own family. I didn't know how much truth Theo would tell but I'd rather not be caught lying.

I caught Mateo's eyes through the rear-view mirror as he smiled at me.

" I'm totally going to slap him silly for ditching you the same day you heard about Aika here. He's got some bad timing and stupid balls" Chloe shook her head, her annoyance for her brother clear as day.

Chloe and Jenny were total opposites. Jenny was older but was years ahead in maturity but I think the mix helps them.

" he didn't know" I reassured her but she wasn't prepared to listen to me.

This feels weird.

It took us another full day to get home and by the time we arrived in Heathrow we were all exhausted. Matteo suggested that they stay at a close hotel right near the airport and surprise Theo and Jenny tomorrow.

" I'm sure we will see you tomorrow, we would love to see the sports campus" Justina said as she walked with me over to the exit. Dad was picking us up, from the sound of his voicemail he was very excited to see Aika again.
