Minutes had passed and Hazel finally had enough energy to walk on her own again (she'd been resting on top of Manny since they left Diego to recover from battle).
The walk was quiet. The only set of noise there was was the wind that blew past them. No wonder everyone had headed south, the snow was gonna hit, and it was not going to be pleasant.
"I know this a bad time." Hazel gazed over at Sid sorrowfully. "But about your herd-"
"I don't have a herd." Hazel replied quickly, getting their attention. "I was travelling on my own before meeting you guys."
"Oh." Sid replied, not expecting that answer. "Well, what happened to them?"
Hazel gazed over at him. She'd moved on from it, it didn't hurt to tell someone about it, especially if they're like family.
"Years ago, the territory my herd owned was ambushed by another pack and almost anyone I knew died trying to protect it." Hazel replied.
Silence filled the air between the herd before Sid questioned; "Were there any survivors?"
"There were." Hazel replied bluntly.
"Then why are you on your own?" He continued on, quite curious in her choices.
"Everyone I knew kind of went off on their own way because they wanted to either mate or just be alone." Hazel sighed. "I thought you guys would have a similar mindset..." she looked over at Sid and Manny. "That was your plan before meeting each other right?"
"Yeah, I was just gonna head the south by myself." Sid answered. "But I bumped into Manny and we've been two bachelors travelling within the wild."
Manny just kept silent, thinking over what the saber has just stated.
"But with you, we can all just be bachelors and bachelorette!" Sid proclaimed, getting Hazel to look at him.
"Your saying you wouldn't mind me tagging with you two?" She questioned.
"Of course you can chill with us!!" Sid replied. "We've been through some rough times-" He looks up at the mammoth; "ain't that right Manny?"
"Yeah." Manny replied calmly. "You guys are not bad."
"Were not bad?" Hazel jokingly raised a brow at the mammoth who just smirked back at her, making her chuckle.
"Yeah," Sid continued, not replying to Manny's comment, "Who needs to be apart of the crowd when we can be knocking about in the wild?"
"Hmm," Hazel nodded slowly. "As much of a good life as that sounds, we probably should head south after this is over,"She suggested. "There's not that much here."
Sid thought it over, "Sure, maybe I can open up a camp for kids," He chuckled, "I mean, I think I treated the little wormy pretty good."
"Sure you did Sid." Manny commented lowly with a smile.
"You've had your downs but, you be a pretty good mother." Hazel jokingly commented.
"You really think so?!" Sid gleefully asked, not catching the sarcasm.
"Sure." Hazel laughed as the baby gurgled happily on top of Manny who'd rolled his eyes at the sloth.
Hazel sighed happily under her breath. It was settled. Once they give the baby back to the humans, they would all head south and start fresh, together as a herd.
As a family.
After some silence and more walking, they all soon reached their destination, where they met a male human who eyed them closely as he turned around.
