What if one night you woke up from a nightmare and turned to hug your teddy bear, but instead it was sitting and grinning? Not just a smile, mind, but an unholy gaping maw of needle thin teeth, with glittering brad black eyes above it? Not moving, just siting there grinding at you as blood, your blood, dripped down its fangs.

What if your teddy bear fed off your nightmares? And what if, as you were frozen staring at it, watching it state back, you heard a creak and watched as something huge black and smokey-slimy slithered out from under your bed, and you could only watch as it crouched and hissed and turned its huge glowing red orbs of eyes.... Onto your teddy bear.

What if one night, just one, you were awake to watch them fight, you finally understood those bruises you'd never able to explain. You understood why your teddy bear ended up halfway across the room. You understood why you woke up feeling you haven't slept at all. And as you watched them rear and fight and move like snapshots or dancing shadows in a strobe light, with the monster finally pinning and forcing your teddy bear into submission, you understood.

The monster under the bed is there to protect its human child.
