"We'll take the staircase on the left side of the building, that area is less crowded, now move!" Dale's firm voice resonates throughout the hall as the four of them are trying to make their way out from the building.
Alex that has now gain awareness about the alarming outbreak suddenly blurted, " Where the hell did all of those... things come from?!" Nobody replied because all of them are too busy running for their lives.
Great, y'all deaf.
It's not long after their head start that the whole school is now filled with shrieks and screeches that comes from all sides. The hallway is a warfield, students running away, bumping into each other, fighting, pushing and even betraying to make way for their precious lives before the zombies starts to infiltrate the building.
Some of the students cowered and started to cry on their knees, not knowing what to do, terrified of what's currently going on around them as they succumbed to their fatality.
A few students fortified the homerooms with chairs and tables, while some finds labs and rooms to conceal themselves.
Some kept their ground and start taking out brooms, scissors and whatever objects they can use to defend and protect themselves. Looking at how the zombies limp, they definitely thought there's strength in numbers. Not knowing that's gonna be the worst and the last mistake they'll ever made.
When the horde approaches, some of the students that were prepping for offense suddenly recoiled and started to surrender and ran away, but the amount of zombies are too overwhelming for them to handle. Dozens and dozens of them succumbed to their worst fate, bitten and preyed by the merciless zombies.
As the boys approached the staircase, Alex gave them a suggestion to head for the cafeteria first, as he thought their chance of survival would increase if they equip makeshift weapons before bolting out of the school ground. They made a beeline for the staircase that felt like forever to reach ground level as their heart pounded so loud they thought they heard each other's heartbeat.
It's only a matter of time before the zombies' count started to increase as the students were infected and some turned into the living dead right away.
"I think after we search the cafeteria for supplies, we should just make an exit behind the cafeteria, just leap over the fence and we're good to go. There'll be less chances of zombies lurking around there." Taylor broke the silence while gasping for air.
Everybody agreed and as they approached the cafeteria, they saw the once were cafeteria workers limping aimlessly around the cafeteria area.
"Shit, they all got infected too. Now what?" Alex grumbled, feeling sick in his stomach.
The undead heaved their heads - alarmed by Alex's husky voice - and menacingly lurched toward the boys with deadly, bloodshot eyes.
"Darn, Alex!" Dale looked around nervously to find something to defend his friends with. His gaze fixed on the dented trash cans. He took off two of the lids shakingly, one for offense and one for defense.
"Dale are you crazy?! What are you gonna do with that?!" Alex exclaimed, a lump on his throat.
"You gotta do what you gotta do to live. No more questions now. Here's the thing. I'm gonna keep these... zombies busy and you guys grab anything that you can, then we'll get the hell outta here, all of us." Determination poured through Dale's voice as he's waiting for the undead to lurch closer.
"But --" Alex hesitated for a while but Taylor grabbed his arms and mouthed 'just do it, he know what he's doing'.
Alex slowly nods and a determination flickers through his eyes.
