Angel gripped the steering wheel so tight the colour from his hand turns white as he's unsure of the next move.

Drive straight through the zombies and he might risk crashing the lives of the boys.

Stay for too long and the undead might start crawling towards them as the engine's hum will catch their attention.

Taylor, who sat behind Jesse pat his shoulder and said, "Guys, I think we should try to swerve our way through the undeads. There's still not too many of them."

"No, we can't take that kind of risk, if they manage to slow down or even stop the car, it'll be free real estate for them." Dale opposed Taylor's idea with a hard shake of his head.

Way too risky, I didn't survive this hard just to end here.

"Well, we have the main road waiting for us if y'all want to make a U turn." Alex said.

"Not a good choice either. We might end up with a bigger roadblock, not by zombies but by cars. Don't forget the main road connects to downtown's intersection. We have no idea what kind of hell broke loose there." Dale also opposed Alex's idea.

"We can fight our way through then." Alex replied.

"No, we are not well equipped enough. Unless you wanna be zombie food, that is." Taylor said while crossing his arm, eyes glued to the zombies infront.

"Then we can also rot here and still be zombie food. These... zombies will break out from the school ground sooner or later and we'll be a whole damn meal for them." Alex raised his voice, steam coming out from his ears.

Y'all kept rejecting my ideas like y'all's are better!

"Wait. Just for fifteen more seconds." Jesse raised his arms, silencing the whole car. He glanced over his watch inaudibly, waiting for the remaining time to pass.

"If this's a countdown for us to become food for the undead I'm gonna swi ---"

RRRRRRIIIIIIINGGGGG!

Alex's babbling was disrupted with a deafening ring from the school bell.

It's recess time.

The living dead limped slowly towards the school, distracted and attracted at the loud noise emitted by the bell.

The congested intersection road started to clear up, making just enough space for their car to pass through.

"...Damn you're good." Alex mumbled under his breath.

"What's that? Hmm? Is that a compliment I heard from the devil himself?" Jesse said sarcastically while leaning his ears, pushing Alex's buttons on purpose.

"Don't get used to it. Might be your last." Alex averted his gaze outside the  window, hands fiddling the hem of his uniform.

Jesse let out a small satisfied chuckle and continued, "Angel, please proceed forward."

"Buckle up everyone, I'm stepping up the gas." Angel drove the car further away from the school ground, turning left heading towards the exit of the town.

They turned off the A/C as they thought it'll save them fuel, but the air around them are sickeningly dry and metallic. As if there's so much bloodbath going on around the town, the pungent smell of blood is all they can smell.

Jesse pinched his nose while looking down, probably trying to hold himself in, as the smell and the view around them turned horrendous, people running away screaming for help, cars abandoned and crashed everywhere, some of the cars were engulfed in fire as the oil tank gave in.
