The text had read:

Jayce: tell Mitch and Jackie congratulations for me :/ sorry I couldn't make it

After the proposal and everyone had left I was still sitting at my booth thinking of a response when Mitch raps me on the shoulder. " The diner is closing in 2 minutes. Are you alright?" He asks me. I sigh but nod. Mitch gives me a questioned look but I don't budge. He takes Jackie's hand and they both walk out together, Jackie turning back for me checking to see if I was lying.

The truth was is that I was fine but I was just confused. Why is he acting like nothing happened? What do I type back?

Remembering that the diner was closing I pick up my wallet and phone and start walking home. It was starting to get warmer outside and I was happy to feel the cool air tickle my skin when I step foot outside. It was a full moon tonight and there were no clouds in sight except for a little cloud that was in a shape of a bunny. I smile to myself and keep walking.

Pulling out my phone I try to think of what to type him back but failed at thinking of anything to reply back to him. I put my phone away and open the door to my house to see my mom in the kitchen with a big smile on her face.

" Guess what?" She squeals as I walk towards her. She weaps me into a bear hug and I laugh. " What?" I ask. Mom backs away giving me some space but still held my hands while she was trying to contain her happiness.

" What is it?!" I repeat impatiently. Mom starts to jumping up and down giggling but the suspense was killing me!

" Mom! What is it?!" I say. I was sounding like a little kid when they want to know what their surprise is from their parents and their parents won't tell them. My parents would do that to me all the time.

Mom takes a deep breath but keeps the wide smile on her face.

" Well I have been working on this painting in for awhile...." she says with excitement. She pulls her hands away from mine and I follow her to the living room to find a large painting hung up on the wall. A warm feeling in my chest appears when I see the beautiful artwork my mom had made that about left me in tears, but I held the tears back so my mom didn't think I was upset. They were happy tears.

" Happy early birthday sweetheart." She says.

It was a painting of mom and I. I had just won my first figure skaring competition when I was 6 years old. My short brown hair pulled back into a messy ponytail and my smile missing a tooth I couldn't help but laugh at it. Mom on the other hand looked great in the picture. Her red hair was falling down her shoulders while she hugged her daughter, pride shown in her green ember eyes.

" That was a good day. " I say still looking in awe at the painting. My mom nods. " Yeah that was." She replies with a faint laugh.

" Thank you. You're the best mom ever." I say giving my mom a hug. She hugs me back and scoffs. I laugh at her reaction to the compliment and she smiles. We let go and mom takes out her phone looking at the time.

It was a very long day and I could feel my feet starting to ache from all the walking I've done today. I right sound like I'm being dramatic but trust me when I tell you it felt like little needles poking into my heels and toes.

I yawn not noticing how exhausted I was from today and lol to my mom "I'm going to go to bed. Goodnight mom." I say.

" Goodnight." She says and I walk upstairs to my bedroom.

Finally in the comfort of my bed I can feel my eyes start to droop and I fall into a deep slumber.
