Draco was once again hiding in the corner between his mattress and the wall. He was warily watching the long bony hand that stretched through the bars of his cell, waiting for them to retreat. His animagus form was small, but that was majorly because he was still young. It was a wolf, or something similar. He actually couldn't tell you what the exact animal was because it was small and nimble like a fox. Regulus and Sirius started calling him a Wox. It was a name that still made him was to bite their fingers.
Because he was thirteen, his birthday having been past, stuck in Azkaban, he would still be considered a pup, or kit? Everything about this form was confusing, but Remus still called him pup, and sometimes he would play with him on a full moon, so he figured the werewolf knew what he was talking about. Thus so, he was still small enough to hide in this crevice, and hide so he shall.
A low growl emitted itself from his throat when the dementor finally left his cell alone. Down the hall he could hear another prisoner scream, so he figured they found someone else's memories to snack on. Poor bastard.
He quickly retransformed and began meditating again. He would get out of here and when he did. Well, Snape was going to experience the third unforgivable. 2/3, that thought only served to piss him off, but in a way it was also settling. He's not dead, his family not mourning his death, his loss perhaps, but not his death.
He would get out of here. He had too.
——————-///———————
Two weeks before school starting the headline "Malfoy child Escapes Azkaban!?!" went public, and a house that was quiet for the entire summer erupted with cheers."He escaped!" Harry cheered, clutching at the paper like it was his life line.
"He's the first to escape and by the looks of the massive hole in the side of the building, he did it in style." Sirius, having been let out of his own prison along with his brother that morning, whistled staring at his version of the paper.
Each member had a different paper from a different company in their hand. They couldn't trust one paper, less they get their hopes up. So when five different news industries published the same story, on the same day, they realized that they had reason to believe.
Regulus laughed and slung an ark over Sirius' shoulder. "Well, we didn't raise him to not escape jail with a bang."
Remus didn't bother to comment too busy staring at the headline with tears in his eyes. His boy was coming home.
With everyone practically falling over in excitement, no one but James heard the door open with a quiet click, and no one noticed when he exited the kitchen and the gathering, to enter the living room.
Standing with his back pressed against the door was Draco. He looked a bit ruffed, and obviously underweight, there was a tiny bit of crazy in his eyes, but he was sane, somewhat, and alive. That's all that mattered. James took two strides before he was on Draco and clutching the small boy to his chest.
Draco, for his part, seemed shocked at the sudden embrace before he melted in to it.
"Welcome home." James whispered clutching the boy closer. Despite being way too thin, he was taller than when the man had last seen him. So now Draco came up to a little over his shoulder. Something he noted subconsciously, but didn't care much for in the moment.
"Yeah, I'm home. Took longer than expected." Draco chuckled when jame finally released him. He took a step back from the marauder and ran a hand through his hair, which was slightly longer than James remembered it being, but it didn't look bad. "Who would have guessed that I'd be the first of us to go to jail?" Draco laughed awkwardly. His eyes kept farting around the living room as if he expected someone else to be there.
"They're all in the kitchen staring at papers. You made front page of practically everything." James watched as Draco flinched, having thought that the man didn't see his obvious need for the rest of his family. He was close to James the man was an uncle to him at best, but it wasn't the same.
James wasn't offended, not in the slightest, he knew how much Sirius, Regulus, and Remus meant to the blond so he had no reason to be. With an arm over the younger's shoulder, James lead them into the kitchen, and if Draco leaned into the embrace more than he normally would, content and comforted, neither mentioned it.
————————
To say he was shocked that no one noticed the pair approach would be truth. Honestly, Remus if nothing was constantly vigilant on his surrounding when he was alone, but it tripled when he was with others. To say that he was surprised at what they were doing that lead to them ignoring the newer presence, would be a lie. Somewhere between his being a baby and now Draco had lost any meaning in what he had come to recognize as normal. He was no longer surprised or wary when Sirius would come home with something stupid and dangerous, for example a manticore that he shrunk and put into a bottle, that eventually escaped, grew, and then sought its revenge in the form of chasing Sirius halfway to France in a muggle environment. That was a bit difficult to explain to the Aurors.
Everyone was so entranced with their own papers that no one noticed Draco until James blatantly mentioned it. It was not subtle, not his best acting work, nope not at all.
James walked over to the counter where his abandoned coffee was and hopped up on it, before taking a nice long, loud, sip of coffee. When that got no ones attention, except an irritated eyebrow twitch from his son. He started speaking.
"So, Draco, want cake as a prize for being the first person to escape Azkaban so spectacularly." James loudly asked. This got everyone's attention but they only turned to stare at James as if he finally lost it. No one saw that Draco was practically dying of laughter at his family's obliviousness. Straightening himself out he answered.
"Sure can it be chocolate?" And well, that got a reaction. Remus froze, but Regulus and Sirius spun around and jumped the boy.
"DRACO!" They screamed in unison as they tackled their younger brother to the ground. The Black brothers landed in a pile of limbs, but they were happy. Each one having latched onto the other and not letting go. They only released him with Draco was being levitated off the floor and into another pair of arms. Even then they were reluctant, until they saw it was Remus.
"My pup," Remus quietly sobbed as he gripped Draco in his arms. Draco wasted no time in latching onto Remus just as tightly.
Harry and James stood to the side watching the reunion. Harry knew he would get his chance later, and he was happy about that, but he was more content to watch the group as they are now.
"You know Harry I don't want to be one upped in parenting." James commented taking another drink of his coffee.
Harry turned to his father and raised an eyebrow. He didn't like where this was going.
"You gotta escape jail next Harry, but this time out do Draco and blow up the entire prison."
"No, dad."
———————/———/—————-This is late I know. I was busy being a student and I forgot about my book for a while. I'm so happy that I can write this again, though, so I might update more since I'll have more time.
Thank you all for supporting my series, I hope you love it as much as I love writing it and thank you for ignoring any errors. I don't usually have time to proofread, read I'm lazy, so I will make mistakes. Also I type this on my phone who believes they know better.
Hope you all enjoyed this chapter which I mostly wrote because I felt bad for the last chapter and wanted a happy reunion fast.
As always
Ciao~
