I still remember the day
When I first saw you
Laughing with your friends
Your hair red, your eyes blue

I couldn't think of anything else
Days passed by until I saw you again
With tears in your eyes and heart in pain
Seeing you broken made me insane

And that's how our story started
The seed of friendship had been buried
All it needed was love and care
And the results turned out to be extraordinary

The seed grew into a plant
The plant into a tree
Within a few weeks’ time
You knew all about me

I don't remember when it happened
I don't care how
All I knew and cared about was that
We were best friends now

Never before had I seen anything
More broken and beautiful than you
And so when I succeeded in making you laugh
I congratulated myself and admired the view

Slowly our bond grew stronger
I don't know if you noticed but the time we spent apart became shorter

Seasons came and went
Days passed by
As long as I was with you
Everyday felt like the fourth of July

Being near you gave me hope
That everything would be just right
But nothing ever happens as you expect it
Try as hard as you might

I fell in love
And I fell too deep
But the journey to your heart
Seemed like a mountain too steep

Being in love with you was exhilarating
Like the first time you go on a ride
A rollercoaster full of emotions
With just a little fear on the side  

It broke my heart and tore me apart
When I realised you didn't feel the same
You looked at him like I looked at you
And this love slowly became a pain

In the end I could only thank you
For the wonderful memories you gave me
But no matter what I did
This unrequited love kind of destroyed me
