Him

I fell in love with him on a cold winter afternoon
The first thing I remember about him is his voice
Soothing, calm, rhythmic
The cracks in his voice giving me life
He was singing about watermelons
I never saw it coming

I fell in love with him in the middle of a chilly night
I was inside my blanket and he was singing in my ear
Tears were falling down my face as he assured me, "we'll be alright"
and water poured down from heaven as if the gods were crying too

I fell in love with him on the train ride home
I couldn't stop laughing listening to him
People stared but we didn't care

I fell in love with him each time he said something that made my head hurt

because of the excess of emotions only he could make me feel

What it was like to be so lonely

I fell in love with him each time he brought me sunflowers from his backyard

I fell in love with him all those times I saw him being playful with his brothers

I fell in love with him that one time he bought food for the homeless

as if they were staring straight into my soul

I fell in love with his generosity
His kindness
His intelligence
His beauty

I fell in love with him a little more
every time he said I love you
every time he said I was his girl
or that he was mine forever

I fell in love with his voice
His eyes
His lips
All his tattoos
His laugh
His soul
He is the most beautiful person I've ever known

I fell in love with him the first time
And mistook it for hate, disgust and loathing
Boy, how wrong I was
They speak the truth when they say
There's a fine line between love and hate
We were just two ghosts finding ourselves
And in the process, we found the best thing that ever happened to us

He's given my life a meaning
