Nine (Levi)

I did it. I can't believe I did it. I came out to my mom and proposed to Nico all in the same day, that is an achievement, especially for me. But now I need to tell my mom that I proposed to Nico and I'm scared of how she's gonna react. I sit up in bed and Nico is sleeping soundly next to me. God he's so cute when he sleeps, I'll try hard not to wake him.

I slowly get dressed and put my shoes on and brush my teeth. I grab my keys and as soon as I go to leave Nico wakes up "Levi, where are you going?" Asked Nico "I'm going to tell my mom we are engaged" I reply. Engaged. Wow it sounds so...unreal, but I loved it

"You can do that later, just come back here please" said Nico in a hoarse voice "ok fine but ten minutes" I say laughing "but that's such a short amount of time" groaned Nico. I got back into bed and snuggled up with Nico "I love you so much" I say as I kiss him on the lips and move down to his neck "I love you too" said Nico

After a while I checked the time "ok I really have to go now" I said, Nico groaned in response I left him with a kiss and then left the apartment. On the way to my mom's house I think of what I'm gonna say to her and how I'm gonna say it. And then I realise that if my mom loved me she wouldn't care who I'm engaged to so long as I am happy, she needs to realise that I am not Jacob. I knock on mom's door and inhale sharply

"Levi!" Exclaimed mom "have you come to discuss the events of the other night?" Asked mom "actually mom I have something I need to tell you" I reply, mom ushers me into the house and I stepped over the threshold and into the living room

"Sit down Levi, what is it you want to tell me?" Asked Mom, I inhaled sharply once more and rubbed my one free hand on my trouser leg, my other hand holding my cast together. "Well, mom, you remember Nico?" I asked, mom's face dropped and she nodded slowly "well, uh, last night, we went out to dinner" I began "don't tell me he broke up with you?" Exclaimed mom worriedly

"No! No mom not at all" I exclaimed and reassured, mom exhaled and nodded for me to go on "Well, we were in a restaurant and I...I proposed to him. I'm gonna get married, mom" I continued. Mom said nothing. Her expression blank. She exhaled

"Well. I'm happy for you and I support you" said mom, I looked at her debating whether or not to say something "mom, it doesn't sound like you're happy with this" I say, mom looks away

"Well, darling. It just comes as a shock to me all of this all so sudden but I will adapt sweetie I promise I will" replied mom, I nodded "I am invited to the wedding aren't I?" Asked mom rather worriedly "of course mom. We just have no idea when it will be or who's coming but you're on the list for sure" I replied, mom exhaled with relief and smiled.

I smiled in return and checked the time "right mom I have to get to the hospital but I'll see you soon" I said, mom nodded and got up to lead me to the door, a habit of hers. "Oh, Levi, you and Nico should come to the grave on Saturday, you know, to pay your respects and well because Nico is your fiancé now and he should come for support you know" said mom

The grave. She meant Jacob. I hadn't gone to see Jacob in years. I sighed "sure mom, I'll tell Nico but I don't know if it's for sure because of the hospital" I reply, mom nods "I understand" said mom. I nodded and walked away.

I made my way back to Nico's apartment to get into my scrubs and wash up for work. I knock on the door and am greeted by a shirtless Nico. Damn.

"Hey, Levi" said Nico smirking, I smile back at him "Hey, Nico" I replied. He ushered me in and I followed in.

"Did everything go ok with your mom?" Asked Nico slowly pulling a shirt over his head. I started to get changed. "Yeah she's fine with it although she did say it would take tome for her to adapt" I replied "oh right ok" remarked Nico

"Oh and there is one more thing" I add, Nico looks at me "go on" prompts Nico "mom wants us to go to Jacob's grave on Saturday, but I haven't been to Jacob's grave in years" I continue. There was silence for what seemed like an eternity but in reality the silence lasted only a prolonged moment.

"We should go" says Nico, I turn to face him. Tooth brush hanging from my mouth "serious?" I asked, my speech slurred because of my toothbrush in my mouth but I was understandable nonetheless. "Yeah, you should pay your respects to your brother" replied Nico. I smiled at him and began to brush through my stubborn curls "ok then, we'll go. Although I told my mom it would depend on how busy the hospital is" I say

"We can just ask bailey for half a day" replied Nico "yeah I guess" I agree. I walk over to Nico and he pulls me closer and kisses me we stay there for a moment, his chin resting on the top of my head and my head listening to his heart beat steadily.

Then he pulls away "no, a little longer" I groan. Nico smirks "come on we're gonna be late otherwise" says Nico. I huff and then smile, holding Nico's hand and walking with him to the hospital.
