Linda and Joe were stuck in an elevator, waiting for help to come. They had been waiting for ten minutes, both frustrated. Linda was on her menstrual cycle, every emotion was being heightened. In that elevator, she discovered that Joe had more in common with his bigger brother than she thought.
"Wanna hear a joke?" Joe sat next to Linda on the elevator floor.
"No, I don't. Let's just wait a few minutes." The silence and Joe's stare was killing her, "fine," she sighed. "Let's here it."
"Knock knock."
"Who's there?"
"Isidore."
"Isidore who?"
"Isidore made of... wood?" He said 'wood' in a funny voice, waiting for Linda to laugh.
The blonde couldn't help herself as her lips curled into a smile, exposing her teeth. "That's not funny."
"Then why're you laughing?"
"I don't know."
"Wanna hear another one?"
"Sure."
"A guy's in a car crash, and his hand is cut off. He gets rushed to the hospital, with his hand. And he says, 'doc! Doc! You gotta help me! You have to sew on my hand'. The doc says, 'okay. I'll do it for 20 thousand'. The guy says, 'twenty thousand?! That's insane!' So he goes to another doctor, who will sew it back on for two hundred bucks. The doc fixes him up, he can move his hand and everything." Joe smiled, seeing Linda hold her breath, waiting for the punch line. "The guy goes to the first doctor and does this." He held a fist in the air, his elbow bent. He slapped his right hand on his left bicep, then looked up and behind him.
Linda held back her laughter as long as she could. She put her chin to her chest, laughing hard.
Joe laughed with her, automatically stopping when he saw tears running down her cheeks. "Hey, are you okay?"
Linda smiled at him, wiping her tears. He was a lot like his big brother in that way. Danny was a hard@ss, but as soon as one of his friends or family members was hurt, he filled with concern. "I'm okay. Why am I laughing so hard?!"
Joe smiled, "I don't know.... What's pink and fluffy?"
Linda looked at him blankly.
"Pink fluff."
She bit her lip before putting her head on her knees and laughing uncontrollably.
"Brown and sticky?... A stick."
"Joe!" She wiped her tears away, "stop! I don't think I can take it anymore."
"Why? You gotta pee?"
"Something like that. And I probably will from laughing so hard. Why is this so funny?!"
"I don't know. Wanna hear another one?"
"Why not?"
"Why is Peter Pan always flying?"
Linda thought long and hard about that one. "Why?"
"Because he Neverlands."
She bit her lip, then cackled with the giggles. Wiping her tears, she said, "I hope the people come quickly. I don't know how much more of this I could take!"
"You like singing? We could sing instead." Joe shrugged.
"Like what?"
"I dunno." Joe though for a moment. "You like Tommy Roe?"
"The king Of bubble gum music? Of course!"
"Me and Erin like him, too. Danny can't stand him."
"I know." That got them chatting about Danny until the firemen opened the elevator. They got out, thanked their rescuers, and headed to the hospital room where Joe's friend was staying.
Linda was glad she could spend some time with Joe, but was also a little concerned with what her boss would say. Maybe he'd be nice, because everyone had to be aware of the stuck elevator. She just hoped he was in a good mood as she headed out to find him.
