Jyn was supposed to be asleep, but she wasn't. She was laying in her comfortable bed holding her favorite toy, Beeny, against her cheek. She held Beeny tight and listened to the voices coming from the main living room.

"Whatever atrocities they commit..."

Jyn didn't know what the words meant but she knew it wasn't good. She enjoyed listening to the grown-ups talk, but tonight it wasn't about nice things, it was about all the fighting.

"The Separatists..."

Jyn shifted in her bed and rolled over, peering through the door. She saw her Mama in a pretty, burgundy cloak, sitting in one the dining chairs. Standing around the dessert table was her Papa in his gray uniform and his friend dressed in white. The man in white was refilling her Papa's glass and poured one for himself.

"The Empire..."

Jyn watched her father and the man in white. Her mother quietly interjected comments but was waved off by the man in white. She gasped when she noticed her father looking at her.

Jyn's mother started speaking and her father turned and walked towards her bedroom. Jyn shimmied backwards in her bed and pulled her knees up to her chest. She didn't want her father to shut her door, she wanted to keep listening to them talk. She needed to hear to them talk.

Her father sighed and sat down beside her.

"You look scared, my Stardust. What's wrong?" He tucked a strand of hair back behind her ear. "You know, I will always protect you."

"Papa, why do people fight?"

Her father took awhile before he answered.

"Stardust, that is a good question," he paused. "My friend Orson thinks that some people fight because they are angry." Jyn gazed up at her father, breathing in his scent, feeling his beard brush against her cheek. "But I think people don't necessarily agree on how to make things better."

"Papa, maybe people would agree if they just stopped fighting."

"Oh my Stardust, don't ever change." He kissed her on the forehead.

"I won't," Jyn whispered. "Will there ever be peace in the Galaxy?" Jyn wrapped her arms around her father.

She heard her father sigh deeply. "I don't know, Stardust. But there is always hope."
