Dreams

In her sleep, she dreamed.

She dreamed of Saw Gerrera, the soldier and man who had raised her, who had trained her as a soldier, who wouldn't take fear as an excuse. A man who many feared and who'd never stop fighting until the fight was won.

She dreamed of her father. She dreamed of being back on Coruscant in their apartment and on the farm. Her father always gifted her with a new toy, so many toys. She could still remember their names and so did he, much to her surprise. Beeny, Stormy, Lucky Hazz Obluebitt, and many others who were but shadows to her now. There had been so many nights that her father would come to her room and gently place a toy in her arms before she fell asleep. It didn't matter what planet they were on, a new toy always found a way into her life.

She dreamed of her mother, back on Coruscant in their apartment. Her mother packing for a planetary survey mission, which she would sometimes be allowed to go on, but not this time. She watched as her mother grabbed a portable scanner off the side table. Her mother looked as beautiful as always, her hair pulled back from her face, smiling down at her.

"Mama?"

"Yes, Jyn?"

Her mother playfully tugged at her ponytails.

"I don't know what to do."

Her mother, finally satisfied with the contents in her duffel bag, nodded. She smiled, but there was a hint of sadness hidden beneath. "I know, darling. But you're a big girl now. You must decide for yourself."

"I don't know how, " Jyn Erso whispered, ashamed to admit it aloud.

Jyn was no longer in their apartment on Coruscant, but in a dark tunnel, a seemingly endless dark tunnel.
