"Saw Gerrera."
"Enfys Nest. I'm hoping you have good news for me."
"Refined coaxium. Enough to power an entire fleet. I imagine you can put it to good use."
Eleven-year old Jyn peered out the shuttle door, past Saw's shoulder. She shrunk back into the shadows, frightened by the powerful figure in the mask.
The masked figure heard sounds coming from the docked shuttle. "And what is this? I asked you to come alone." The Cloud-Riders behind the figure raised their weapons.
Saw held up his hands. "Jyn, come out."
Jyn's knees shook as she walked down the ramp to Saw's side. "This is my ward, Jyn. She was curious about my meeting with you and wants to learn how to survive the dangers of the Empire. I allowed her to accompany me."
There was a long pause. Jyn's gaze was drawn to the mysterious stranger in front of her. She felt her heart beat faster and wiped her sweaty palms on her pants.
Without warning, the stranger pulled off the face mask. Jyn gasped. It was a girl!
"Do you believe your age protects you?" Enfys Nest's voice was gentler now without the helmet.
"No," Jyn answered softly.
"People will always underestimate you. Make them regret it."
Saw and Nest resumed their adult talk and turned to enter the shuttle to continue their negotiations. Jyn followed, crossing her arms behind her back, thinking about what the other girl had said.
When Jyn passed them, she whispered to the young woman, "Saw will underestimate me."
The woman smiled.
