Roman was never one to open up about his fears, the thought always made him feel sick to his stomach. How could a prince fear something without being considered weak, stupid, useless. He could not bare that kind of judgement, however this caused him to face his fears more often then most, in the form of nightmares. And tonight was one of those awful nights.

Roman had already been awoken due to two other minor nightmares, one of failing Thomas, and one of dying in battle, nothing too sever, but when he fell back to sleep his head was filled with his worst nightmare yet. He was walking through Thomas's thoughts, as he sometimes did to gain inspiration but something felt different. The trees were darker and the thoughts only whispered quietly, as if they were trying not to be heard. He pulled out his sword and turned around in circles trying to find the cause of this change but there was nothing. No path,no shadow nothing, just trees, endless trees. Roman turned and started to run, fear coursing through his veins as he looked for some kind of exit or sign but there was nothing. As he ran the trees started to move and a dark laughter filled the space around him.

"Do you really think you could run from me fool?" A familiar voice hissed and Roman froze in his tracks as his blood went cold. He slowly turned around and a figure floated toward him as he started to back pedal. "Roman Roman Roman, you can't run from me here, this is where I thrive. I manipulate his thoughts, spiking his anxiety and gaining control of Virgil as I do so, and I become all powerful over Thomas. You know you can't win this, you can't stop me Roman."

"Good always wins. Evil can never win" Roman said as he held up his sword but his voice was quivering and Deceit landed on the ground in front of him as his eyes glowed yellow and the snake wrapped around his chest and arm.

"Oh you poor little prince, you clearly have not been taught the truth of the world. The good can never stop cheaters and liars and backstabbers because those people get the upper hand. How do you think I got you up here so easily?" He asked as Virgil appeared in front of him, chained and beaten. He looked up at Roman with pain and a little hatred.

"I tried to warn you, why didn't you listen to me?"

"I couldn't tell what was real! You were contradicting yourself constantly." Roman said as he walked toward him but Deceit flung him back.

"He won't be talking to you anymore" Deceit extended his arm and the snake slithered down his arm and moved toward Virgil, wrapping around his body before sinking its teeth in his neck.

"Virgil!" Roman gasped as Virgil screamed out and squeezed his eyes shut as he struggled, but his body slowly went stiff and his eyes fell open, revealing the bright yellow that had consumed them. "No!"

"Get your revenge Virgil. He didn't believe you, he didn't listen to you, he doesn't care about you." Deceit hissed as the bondings fell from around Virgils body and a massive pit opened a few feet behind Roman. Virgil stood slowly and conjured his obsidian sword and he started to walk toward Roman, who quickly started to crawl backwards.

"Virgil listen to me! You have to fight this! You can't let him win like this! Please just-" Before he could finish his thought Virgil swung his sword at Roman who blocked it, just barely.

"You abandoned me! You didn't lisssssssten to me! You ssssssssaid I could trussssssst you but you lied!" Virgil backed Roman to the very edge of the pit and glared at him. "You sssshhhhould join them. That'ssssssss where you belong!" Virgil kicked him in the side over and over and over again as Roman gasped out before Virgil kicked him hard enough that he went over the edge. Roman gasped and fell as he watched Virgil stare back at him with a smirk before he gasped and shot awake. He instantly started to cry hard as he held Mrs. Fluffy Bunny close to his chest as he curled up in a ball. Virgil was next to him in a second and he wrapped his arms around him as he sighed.

"I'm sorry Ro" He said softly as he pet his head. Roman leaned into his touch as he cried and tried to calm down and Virgil wrapped his arms around him. Roman buried his face in his chest and sobbed as he clung to Virgil tightly.

"I-I....he-he...."

"Shhhh we can talk about it later, you need to take deep breaths first." Virgil said softly as he rubbed his back and rested his chin on the top of Roman's head. Roman cried for a good five minutes and by this point the other two were standing in the doorway unnoticed. Once he calmed down Virgil gently held his face in his hands and he told him everything that had happened. Virgil listened without reaction as he gently caressed his cheek as he recounted the entire nightmare. When he finally finished Virgil gently kissed his forehead. "None of the others would let that happen, and I know you wouldn't let that happen. I know you are stronger than him."

"But what if I'm not?" he asked softly.

"Is that one of your fears? Not being strong enough to beat D?" Roman nodded as he looked down and closed his eyes.Virgil ran his fingers through his hair.

"That's not true, no matter how much he tells you otherwise, good will always win." Roman smiled a little and laughed softly. "What's so funny?"

"That was a very uncharacteristic comment for you to make." Roman pointed out as he looked at him with a soft smile.

"Yeah well I've been spending too much time around you that's why." Virgil shot back, but he had a playful glint in his eyes. "Besides you needed to hear it so I made that sacrifice, that's what heroes do right?" Roman smiled softly and nodded, wiping his last few tears away before caressing Virgil's cheek.

"What would I do without you?"

Drive the rest of us insane" Logan said simply and Patton hit his arm playfully. Roman jumped a little and blushed hard as he rubbed his eyes not noticing they had been there the whole time.

"It's okay to be scared Roman." Patton said softly. "It's what makes you human."

"I just.....don't want you guys to see me as weak"

"They can't. That's my job" Virgil teased as he kissed his cheek and Roman rolled his eyes but ran his fingers through his hair. He was glad his friends, and boyfriend, would be able to support him through this no matter what.
