"If We Can't Be Lovers"

"Dad? Can you please tell me a sad story?" my daughter asked me.

"Do you still remember your tito?" I asked her.

"Is it Tito Keanu?" tanong muli sa akin ni Lesley.

"Yes, I'm gonna tell you our story,"

I took a deep breath before starting to speak.

"Hey nak, listen carefully," I said while she started to put her head on my shoulder.

Nung highschool pa lang kami ng Tito Keanu mo, pareho naming niligawan ang Mama mo.

At yun nagpatuloy kami sa pag aaral at dumating ang mga taon na nagkatrabaho at nagkatuluyan kami ng Mama mo.

Then ayun, dumating ka.

"Tay? Ano naman po ang malungkot doon?" she asked me na parang disappointed.

"Here is the sad part, your mother married me but never returned my love for her until the day came na namatay sya ilang taon ka pa lang," I said.

"Are you ready to hear the saddest part?" I asked my daughter in a nervous tone.

Hindi ka sa akin dahil mula ka sa katas ng Tito Keanu mo."

"And this is the saddest part..."

"I made a mistake having sex with a girl at the bar nung mga Gabi na nakaburol ang Tito Keanu mo dahil sa pagluluksa ko."

And tears started to fall at Lesley's cheeks and continued flowing to my shoulders.

"I love you daughter, sleep tight," I said and lumabas na sa room nya.

"Kung di ka din naman mapapasakin Lesley, mas mainam pang magsinungaling na lang ako ulit sayo,"

"If we can't be lovers then hindi ko din hahayaan na mapunta ka sa lalaking yun, you're mine, daughter," I whispered to myself at pumasok na sa kwarto ko.
