--Flashback--
Kenzie was in her bedroom when Maddie noticed her. There were cuts on her wrist. In her hand was an open bottle of pills.
--End of Flashback--
Maddie suddenly snapped back into reality as Abby was yelling at her, "Maddie!" "Sorry, I was just daydreaming." Maddie answered, running over some of the group routine's choreography. The choreography was not something that they were used to, but they were strong, competitive dancers, picked from the one and only, Abby Lee Miller to be on her Junior Elite Cometition Team.
--Flashback--
Mackenzie was humiliated. Abby laughed at her, yelled at her, and spanked her once. That's when Mackenzie really was mad. "Stop!" She screamed. 'I can't do it' The thought had appeared in her mind thousands of times, but she paid no attention to it. One day, it was the day of June 3, that the little girl really couldn't take it anymore. She started cutting that day, stopping an hour later. After putting down her razor, she pulled over one of her favorite navy sweaters to hide the cuts. "Why are you wearing a sweater?! It's freaking 80 degrees!" Maddie yelled, yanking off the sweater, revealing the cuts from the razor. "You little bitch! Leave!" Maddie pointed to the little sister's bedroom.
Mackenzie, instead, took out a bottle of pills from her mother's bathroom. She let out a scream and swallowed them all at once. Maddie and her mother soon came, but it was too late. There was no longer 3 beating hearts inside the house. Instead there were two. That was the end of Mackenzie Frances Ziegler. She has died. She died. She was dead. Dead. Dead. Dead.
The next day, was Kenzie's birthday. She was not alive for her twelfth birthday, nor was she alive for the rest of the days ahead.
--End of Flashback--
Maddie wondered on and on if dancing was the right thing for. She no longer felt like dance was her escape. She didn't really like it as much. But, she continued to dance, getting dance a very small part in her heart.
Chaine, side aerial, tilt, chasse, grand jete, ... Now was the time for the big turn combination in her solo, consisting of 5 a la secondes, to 3 float turns, a quadruple pirouette, 4 a la secondes, 4 fouette turns, a double pirouette, and an illusion. 1, one half, ... Maddie fell out of her final piroutte, not doing her illusion. She continued trying, sweat building up on her face, as she landed well on her turns. She loved the contemporary routine to 'Jar of Hearts' that Miss Abby picked out for her. The choreography was amazing. She wished that little Mackenzie Boo could watch her dance and be able to dance with her.
Maddie was really sad. To sad to think about Kenz. That was the reason why. She had been so mean to poor Kenzie. It was why she committed suicide.
Maddie walked into the crowded den after her 1 hour solo rehearsal. She got her foot Undeez out from her dance bag and put them on. Kendall and Maddie walked into Studio A together for the group dance. The new girl, who was replacing Mackenzie, was there. She was flawless and wonderful. Her name was Sydney. Kalani, from Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition, was there also.
One by one, everyone was supposed to walk on. Sydney went, Kalani went, Chloe went, now it was her turn. Maddie had shown no room for improvement after her sister's death. Chloe has gotten better than her. In the past, Maddie was the favorite and the best. Now she wasn't. Kendall and Nia walked onto the stage after her, as she posed with her head in her knees. The dance was contemporary, one of Maddie's best styles.
Maddie continued to dance though. Deep in her heart, there was a tiny spot of her that couldn't believe this. That part felt so stunned that her brain had thought of quitting dance. 'If I didn't dance, I would kill myself.' Maddie thought as she continued to practice.
At 10:30, rehearsal ended and it was the end of dance, for today. There were sweat stains all over Maddie's face and occasionally a drop of sweat would rain down her face. Melissa and Maddie got into the car and drove home. Maddie put down her dance bag and ran into her bathroom to shower. She got her favorite shampoo and washed her hair, adding her favorite conditioner on her light brown hair. Maddie always used those soaps the day before competition for good luck. She got out and dried her body. After changing, Maddie got her caboodle and her competition case from her bedroom and started packing up.
In her caboodle, she put her lip things of the top compartment. She always changed what she put according to the dances that she was in. But this week, she brought her red lipstick for her solo and a reddish brown one for the group. Maddie also had an EOS lip balm with a red lipgloss. The second compartment had her eye shadows. She had a colorful palette that she always brought, just in case, a brown and black palette with a black color and many shades of brown, some light and some dark. On the other side, Maddie put her eyeliners, highlighters, and mascaras on the first compartment and her blush, powder, foundation, and concealer on the second. There was also a big bottom part. It held a case for all her makeup brushes and her hair stuff; bobby pins, hair spray, donut bun, several hair nets, and hair ties.
In her competition case, Maddie put her costumes, dance shoes, team jacket, and her team sweats. Maddie also put a case with some safety pins for her costumes. She was always prepared for everything.
Maddie pulled over her blanket and wished that she would win at the competition. She let out one last prayer to win and drifted off to sleep.
