The next day was competition day. Maddie's alarm rang at 5:00 telling her to wake up and go to the studio. Maddie was already in her ALDC sweats, so she just brushed her teeth, grabbed her competition case and caboodle, and ate breakfast. Of course, she wouldn't have Kenzie there watching her and dancing with her.
"A studio!" Abby shouted, entering the green room at In10sity Dance Competition. The competition was huge and Maddie was extremely nervous, competing with a solo and group dance. "Mads, over here" Kendall said taking her light-up makeup mirror to the corner of the room, close to the dance area. Maddie started applying her Mac loose powder on her face, seeing Kendall already putting on her Maybelline New York water-proof mascara over her self-adhesive fake eyelashes. Maddie quickly made a fishy face and put on her pinkish red blush, and the rest of her makeup. "Costumes!" Abby shouted. "Maddie, here's your solo costume and the group dance costume. Put it on because your solo's on in 20 minutes."
She quickly pulled on the blue, sparkly, lyrical dress and changed into her tan jazz shoes. A lady walked in and told them, "It's time for...um..." She looked down at her clipboard, "Madison and Kendall to go backstage for their solos." Maddie and Kendall linked hands as they walked towards the backstage area for their solos. "I'm so nervous" Maddie said to Kendall, running her choreography a little in the wings. "It's okay, Mads. You've done this thousands of times, being nervous and dancing a solo, I mean." It was true. Maddie always told whoever was backstage with her that she was really nervous before performing any dance on stage. Partly because Kenzie wasn't with her, and because she didn't want to disappoint anyone.
"Next up, number 25, Kendall with Fool Me Twice." The announcer said into the microphone. Kendall walked on stage, performing a series of turns. The choreography was different compared to when 11 year old, Kendall performed it in Season 4 of Dance Moms. Overall, the dance was amazing and Maddie knew that Kendall would probably earn the 1st place award. "Next is number 27, Maddie with "Without You". She could connect to the piece because Kenzie had died. Suddenly, she stopped dancing with a terrified look on her face, also tears.
