Christmas had never been so depressing.

Camila is leaving the next day. This is Carn's first Christmas without her mother. Stan and Eddie are in a fight about communication issues and whether they should come out or not.

They all sit around the fire at Mike's, the joy from their last full gathering completely gone. The cheerful atmosphere of the farmhouse is completely gone.

"My father was just defending an innocent man. He was getting harassed by a drunk and he just stepped in. The drunk man accused my father of assault, and now we're being sent back to Mexico," Camila explains to the Losers.

In the corner, Carn and Eddie are sharing a platter of brownies. She was distant today.

"You're thinking about her, aren't you? Your mother."

"What....?" she combs through her hair casually, feigning surprise.

"Please," Eddie sighs. "I saw you walk up to the phone how many times today? Not to mention it's your first Christmas without her. You've been hurting enough before this."

Rubbing her stomach, Carn doesn't answer. They both know that he's right.

Finally, she mumbles, "Did I tell you she talked to me?"

"No!"

"Yeah. Christmas Eve mass. She told me she heard about the retreat and was really proud of me. She practically begged me to come back home."

"Carn, what? Why didn't you tell me this?"

"I- I don't know."

"Well, how did you respond?"

"I told her no," she confesses. "She never apologized anyway, and what she did was unforgivable."

"Unforgivable?" Eddie raises his eyebrows.

"Did you ever forgive your mother for what she did to you, Eds?"

His ears go red. "Not particularly, no."

Carn gives his hand a squeeze. "Let's not worry about this now. What's new with you?"

"Nothing much," he answers quickly, looking away from her.

She tilts her head. "You sure about that?"

He hums a yes, picking at a fray on his t-shirt.

"Okay, then..."

There's an awkward silence between the two. They try to do other things, like look around the burgundy room that they'd been in a million times or bounce their knees.

Carn is about to start drinking her glass of water, but Eddie starts speaking again.

"So what's new with you?"

"Same old. Nearly finished all of my college applications."

"That's cool. Are you and Bill going to the same college? With... you know, the baby and all."

Carn shrugs. "It depends. His dream school is NYU and mine is Notre Dame, so."

She feels a hand softly place itself on her shoulder, making her jump.

"H-hi," Bill chuckles at her.

"Oh gosh, you scared me."

"Y-y-you ruh-ready to go? It-it's getting l-l-late."
