"Ice cream! Ice cream! Ice cream!" Claire sings as they pass the Kohr Brothers Stand.

"Dinner first, baby," Carn giggles, peppering her daughter's face with kisses. Like every other time he watches the two interact, Bill's heart flutters out of his chest. He wipes his sweaty palms on his shorts.

"L-let's go on the F-F-Ferris wuh-wheel," he says out of nowhere.

"Are you sure you don't want to wait until after dinner? Aren't you a little hungry?"

"No. I want to g-g-go n-n-now!"

"You're such a baby sometimes. But if you want to, we can go now. Unless Claire wants dinner."

"D-do you want duh-dinner, b-beautiful?" Bill asks the toddler, playing with her blonde wisps of hair.

"Ice cream, please!"

"I pruh-promise you, we'll get y-you ice c-c-cream to-tonight."

"Yay!" she cheers, giving him a kiss.

"We're going to the Ferris wheel right now, honey," Carn tells her. "It's a really fun ride. You were on it before, a long time ago."

"Okay!"

Bill drags Carn, who holds Claire, by the hand to the long, slow-moving line. A light-year and a half later, they make it to the front.

"Two to a side," the operator sighs, obviously tired and ready for his shift to end.

"Could my daughter sit on my lap? I think we'd prefer to all sit together." Carn tries to reason with him. A few nosy people in line scoff at the fact that she's barely an adult and already a mother.

"It's a safety regulation, ma'am."

"It's o-o-okay, C-Carn, I'll j-j-just take the other suh-side."

"Thank you," the man rolls his eyes and pulls a seatbelt over them on both sides. Ever so slowly, the wheel creeps up and stopped almost at the top.

This should do, Bill thinks.

"It's a lovely view," Carnation watches the sun setting over the ocean. So many hues of pink, orange, yellow.

"Carnation?"

She shifts her gaze to Bill, the rays reflecting off his gorgeous auburn hair. His hands slowly reach for his seatbelt, unclipping it.

"What are you doing, Bill? You're going to get in so much trouble with the operator! What if you fall out of the car?"

He ignores her. His face is redder than his hair.

"I love you, Carnation. I love you so much. You are the most exceptional person I've ever known. I've seen you grow as a mother, and I couldn't ask for a better one for my girl. And I could never ask for a better girlfriend. I knew that since the beginning of us, really. You're beautiful inside and out. And sometimes you're a total pain in the ass, but sometimes I am too."

She giggles, though tears start to stream down her porcelain cheeks.

"And you continue to love and cherish me anyway, and I will love and cherish you until the day I die, Carnation Holland. You continue to amaze and inspire and teach me new things day by day."

He gets down on one knee. The operator yells something nasty, but neither they nor Claire noticed.

"Marry me," he whispers, holding up a glittering ring.

She wants to make a comment about how bold he is, but she can't seem to get any words out and settles with a nod instead.

"Sc-screw the op-operator," he mumbles, jumping onto Carn and wrapping his arms around her. He kisses her everywhere- her face, her neck, her chest.

"Careful, our two-year-old is right here!!"

"Whoops," he says, picking Claire up and taking her back to his seat. The widest grin is on her face, and she claps her tiny hands together enthusiastically.

When the Ferris wheel dips to the bottom, the operator is scowling at them.

"You broke almost all of the safety regulations, today."

"We're really sorry about that, sir," Carn apologizes. "But thank you for being a great operator and caring about your customers' safety!"

When she slaps a five into his palm, he suddenly is in a much better mood.

"Come on, guys," she turns to Claire and Bill, walking backwards through the crowd. "Forget about dinner. Let's get some ice cream!"

******************************

The wedding is a few years after Bill's proposal, so the two are able to graduate school and find professional jobs. Bill wrote a horror novel over his senior year of college, which became a bestseller. He continued with becoming an author, keeping his barista job on the side. Carn, on the other hand, began to work in Child Welfare.

The ceremony is at a beautiful Catholic church in Brooklyn, the same one where Claire was baptized. It's a small congregation, as they decided to not invite their parents. A few friends from work and school attend, as well as a handful of the Losers. As awful as it is every single one of them is rapidly falling out of touch with the others.

Mike gives Carn away and a gorgeous young Claire, dressed in lavender, is the flower girl. She wears a simple white dress and a long veil, making Bill cry as she walks down the altar. Beverly and Clara are the only two bridesmaids, but Bev has to leave early to catch her flight back to Paris.

Unfortunately, when the rest of the wedding party goes out for drinks afterward, Clara gets sick all over her dress.

The two boys, Mike and Richie, have a fun time- at least until Richie has to take a vomiting Clara back to the hotel. Poor Mike doesn't want to impose on the newlyweds, so he goes to his hotel, too.

And as they all go back home (or on their honeymoon in London), it doesn't occur to any of the Losers that they won't see each other again for fourteen more years.
