The Him

Chapter 10: The Moment

I woke up and saw Mae was right next to me, but she was asleep. "Mae!" I yell running to her but I was stopped at an invisible wall. I looked around. I trace my fingers on the invisible wall and saw it wasn't invisible. It was glass. I was in a tube.
I squint. In the corner of my eye, I saw another tube. I squished my face on the tube so I could see who was in it. Blake? But how? Oh wait, my memory shot back. Somebody was in Blake's body.
Someone might also be in mine at this very moment! The thought made me sick. I felt the tube. I wanted so much to break it and save Mae. I pound, and pound and pound. Finn storms in.
"Asher, calm, calm, you're under our control," Finn says softly. I feel a force grabbing at me, pulling me towards Finn. I turn away, breaking free and fall to my knees gasping for air.
"This, Asher, this is what happens if you do not follow The Him," someone said. It came into the light and I saw it was a girl.
"Finn," she smiled and kissed him. She looked at him with joy in her eyes and when she looked at me, she hardened.
"My name is Atari," she said, "I have once been a prisoner myself only I decided to join The Him. He made my life much more easier."
"You mean Blake?" I asked, "Please, anyone but Blake can make anyone's life easier."
"Don't you dare say that about The Him!" Atari yelled, "when I joined him, I met the man of my life." She smiled at Finn.
"Join us, Asher, Mae already has. Don't you want to join us?" Finn asked.
"Mae joined you?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper. As if on cue I feel cold clammy hands on my back, Mae. I turn around and she smiles.
"Asher, you can't resist, join THE HIM!" She exclaims. I shake my head. No it isn't her, it's not her. Someone else inside her.
"Asher, you know you wanna be with me, join me, we will be together forever." Mae hisses.
"NO!" I cry tears streaming down my cheeks.
"FIGHT IT MAE! FIGHT IT!! COME BACK TO ME!! WE NEED TO SAVE YOUR BROTHER!! BLAKE!!!" I cry. I fall onto my knees and cry.
"A-Asher?" A small voice asked. Mae is fighting. Her eyes are clouded with worry. I grasp her hand.
But then my throat clogs up. I can't breath. I look up to see Finn squeezes my bracelet. He's choking me? Atari slaps it out of his hand. She throws off her hair, Wait no, a wig. IT'S MEAGAN!
Finn looks at her, surprised. "M-Meagan? W-what? I thought you were dead," he whispered.
"Another reason to hate you," she spat.
She punched Finn in the stomach, making him fall to the ground groaning. Just then, someone slapped me and I fell to the ground.
I turned around and saw Mae. She was shoving Meagan into the tube she was in. "No!" I cried running towards her and pulling her away from the tube. Then, the tube's door snapped closed with Meagan in it and me staggering to the ground.
"This isn't like you! Remember all the late nights you were in your lab because you wanted to help people? Remember when I kept coming in when I had no idea where I was going? Remember Mae? You have to remember," I yelled standing upright. "Remember Mae! Don't give in to The Him! He's just a dimwit that wants to destroy humanity! Not important!"
Then, Mae's eyes clouded again as she shook her head and covered her ears. "No! Stop!"
"Remember the time you tried to help me fit in? Remember how you loved both Jasper and Blake and the whole crew? Remember Diane and how you tried to help her!" I kept yelling. "People love you, Mae! And not because you have past history, it's because you be yourself everytime and everyday! I love you!"
"Noooooo!" She yelled.
"I love you, Mae! I love your ongoing spirit! I love how you push us to our limits! I love how you try to save people in whichever way you can, even if it's super crazy, you still do it!" I cried, tears streaming down my cheeks.
Just then, Mae punched me in the face, making me fall to the ground, whimpering, "I love you, Mae. And love is stronger than hatred. Remember that."
Mae's eyes became normal and she looked around. She saw Meagan in a tube. She saw Finn on the ground, unconscious. Then, she saw me, crying on the floor. "ASHER!" She yelled running towards my side.
"M-Mae," I smiled as I saw her face that was not possessed by The Him.
She smiled, stroking my hair through her fingers. Then, very carefully, she came closer and placed her lips upon mine. We stood up and I grasped her face and she grasped mine. She pulled away sheepishly. So did I. Meagan pounded on the tube and stuck her tongue out. I roll my eyes and pull it open. She falls out.
"You guys are gross! Come on! We need to get Blake out of here! Mae, you get Blake. Me and Asher will get the jewel to stop the zombie apocalypse," Meagan orders. Mae gives a fearful look and then nods.
Meagan runs down the thin corridors until we reach a dim room. A woman is sitting in a chair, her back is to us. I look at Meagan. She nods. We step closer. Then, we are flown into the air. The woman is controlling us with the crystal!
