Elijah POV

My thoughts were disturbed by Tom's brother and my alpha Rick, he looked like he was happy and that everything in his life had come back to him. Ricks life was back on track now though cause of Alex coming back, there was something else though as well. However, I was feeling unsettled in a way because of the way Rick was looking at me. His eyes were wide and his grin long as he studied me, I couldn't look the alpha in the eyes. I ran away like a coward and hid from the pack, technically I am not pack  because of me running away. I closed my eyes ashamed to look at my alpha, I showed my neck in submission and just listened to Ricks breathing.
" I believe you have something to say to me Elijah?" Rick spoke with a slight cockiness to his tone. I haven't heard Tom for a few hours and, I haven't been able to sense him.
"Is this to do with Tom?" I asked still holding my submissive pose.
"Yes. He was let out of the cells this morning and instantly came to me, he spoke about finding his mate and not knowing what to do. Especially because of what he did to my mate. I'm assuming that's why you left and why we couldn't find you, am I right?"
"I was there when he did that to Alex. I didn't know what to do. I heard everything that he thought about you two being together. It scared me but, I thought he wouldn't do anything because you were happy and you two were always close. Then when he saw Alex and you in the street I don't know what caused him to do what he did, but that's when I knew I had to run away. If he knew what I knew what's to say he wouldn't hurt me like Alex, or worse he could of killed me." Rick sat down on a chair as I carried on speaking. Rick was always different from his brother, he had the alpha genes in him. He had that leadership in him that made him more approachable and he listened to his people, he was willing to help everyone who came to him.
   "You knew before him?"
"Yeah. I found out on my 18th birthday, he was already talking about how he couldn't wait to find out his female mate and how it was disgusting how you and Alex were going out. He wouldn't of believed me if I told him I was his mate. So after what happened with Alex, I stopped hanging out his him even more. Then it came to the week before his 18th birthday party, I made my plan to pack everything up to go and live in the cottage just outside of the pack. I went to go and clear my head and thing about what I should do about the whole mate situation, and that's when I realised. I had been away from the pack for so long that the link had snapped and that's why I'm in here when I came back to visit my parents." I looked up at Rick, I was so emotional about the whole situation still that I had tears running down my cheeks. Rick was looking at me like he knew the pain I was going through.
"My brother came to me crying in my office as soon as he was out of the jail." Rick spoke calmly, standing up and walking towards the safe that held all the keys to the cell. Before I left I was training to be a cell guard so I knew about the cells.
"I don't know if he would change Rick. He said he was trying to look for me for months after I left and he showed me the bracelet..."
"What bracelet?" He interrupted me, looking at me curiously as he spun the keys round in his hand.
"I got him a bracelet for his 18th birthday. I left it for him before I left, he says he's never took it off." I whispered as I looked down. Rick was silent for about a minute before I heard the cell door unlock. Rick was letting me out but why? Technically I wasn't pack anymore.
"I Alpha Rick, accept that you Elijah have returned to our pack." Rick spoke firmly and confidently, then all you heard was the howl of an excited wolf. We both knew who that wolf was, Tom.
"Thank you Alpha."
"Just call me Rick Elijah we've known each other since we were kids. Anyway, now I want you with my warrior to go and get your stuff from the cabin and I'm going to place you in your own house on pack land. You will have 24 hour security and house security as well that will stop my brother from getting to you while you settle back in, we both know what my brother is like and he will more then likely try and make up for lost time."
"You sure it will work Rick?"
"Yes cause if it won't I'm gonna put him in a cell until he calms his hormones down." He spoke firmly and with confidence while we walked out of the cells and towards the road with the car, he must of mind linked his warrior while we were in the cells.
"Your willing to help me after I left?" I asked even though it was a stupid question.
"Of course I'm willing to help you Elijah, like I said we've known each other since we were kids and I can tell you want to make it work with Tom but both of us know he's gonna try and rush it." He smiled at me as I sat down in the back of the car. Rick was always a nice guy I just think he should of helped River instead of walking away, but he knows his mistake and he's trying to fix it.
   "Thank you Rick."
