As I watched, my creations evolved, and became more things among themselves. It pleased me to watch from above, yet pained me that I could never join them to celebrate.
My search and hunt for the entity that was causing decay still went on. I kept my eye on my creatures on the daily, yet, for some reason, I could not find this being.
Tall trees began to grow in large dense groups upon the land. I longed to be adventuring among them, and I tried, but whenever I accidentally touched a tree while I swam around and through them, I would always begin to feel the coldness, and immediately retreat towards the sun.
The same trees began to turn into small clearings when hunter-gatherers and humanoids came along to destroy them. I did not mind them for the most part, at the beginning.
I can still breathe life back in to a tree a humanoid had cut. They were my most ignorable creation, anyway. My biggest concern was still the entity that continued to take what belonged to me without my permission.
I became lucky when the first young proper human with child was preparing to give birth. I was present for the first breath of the baby. This baby was important. He would mark the beginning of a larger, smarter race. As I made my entrance to breath life into this important baby, my eyes drifted over to the new mother, who was slowly bleeding. I could see the small part of me within her begin to wither away. I attempted to give her life again, but it was so cold, it hurt me. It was then, that I noticed the dark, looming shadow beside her bed. When it noticed me looking, the shadowy form quickly sank back in to the earth.
It was him. After so long, after so much searching, I had finally caught a glimpse. I had finally found the cold.
He had taken the part of me within this human in front of my very eyes, and I hadn't done a thing to stop him.
