"You can always leave." I said to him without hesitation. Instant regret washed over me. I could tell this had hurt him, as his expression faltered for a moment before he frowned.
"Leave? This is my land. I cannot leave. I cannot fly." He argued.
"You found this planet. You can find many others. Something came together on this planet to create me. I was birthed from this earth. This is my home more than yours. And if it has been destroyed, let it be so. But I will breathe life back into it again, even if it is the last thing that I do."
"You should not."
"Why?" I spat at him through tears. He was silent for a while.
"Everything upon this planet is now wholly mine. It is now a part of me. If you attempt to put yourself into what belongs to me, we will only hurt each other. We contradict each other's very existence. You are the giver, I am the taker. If you give me life, you are taking my existence, and if I take you, I am giving you into nothing. You will disappear, and so will I." His words trailed off at the end.
"If we cannot be together, what purpose do we really have, at this point? It has been so long since I have been able to touch anything but the air and the ocean. Even the oceans have begun to dry, and you have nothing more to take," I took a deep breath. "Except myself."
"No." He protested with no hesitation. "I will never take you. I cannot do that to you. I cannot hurt you."
"You are not hurting me." I gave him a soft smile. "If turning into nothingness is the only way that I can be with you, then it is the only thing that will make me happy."
