The Babysitter

Chapter 18

•Kaitlyns POV•
Thoughts swarmed my head as I contemplated the conversation that could go down if I went over there. The same soft brown hair was blowing in the wind. And those green eyes that mesmerize me, sat there watching two little children play on the swing set. After minutes of thinking I made my way over.
"Hey" I whispered as I sat down. He smiled back, showing off his beautiful sparkling eyes. We stared at each other for a moment. Just enjoying each others presence before I asked him a question I've been meaning to ask him for awhile.
   "Why are you always so different in school?"
   He looked at me, confusion evident on his face.
   "What do you mean?" he questioned.
   "Like...whenever you're around your friends it's as if i'm not there. Or you're teasing me about something I did. Or you're giving me weird looks. I just want to know why because honestly Joey, i'm sick and tired of it. I like you, and you know that. And right know it seems as if when you're bored you like to play with my feelings and it hurts you know? It really does." I finished.
   He sat there for a few seconds. Going over everything I just said to him. But, when he didn't respond for another good minute or so, I got frustrated and stood up. He didn't even look at me. Probably thought I was some freak. Tears began to well up in my eyes and I decided to go home and not let Joey think I was fragile too.
   On my walk home there were footsteps a couple steps behind me. Thinking it was a neighbor I didn't pay much mind to it. The tears finally escaped as I tried to blink them away. I tried to look both ways but because of my tears I couldn't see very well. Thinking I was fine I began to cross, when a urgent screeching sound and car horn startled me. A car was coming straight towards me ... and that's when I froze.
