I Need You

Chapter 4- Fluent in Gossip

As I walk to the cafeteria with Aly, I begin to question her on who that guy is from English that kept staring at me the whole time.

"So, who was the guy that I got paired up with?", I ask curiously.

"You are one lucky girl! Jace is by far the hottest boy in school, he's friends with Rocco and Bruno", she explains. I nod understandingly.

It makes sense, his whole exterior does scream bad boy.

As we enter the cafeteria, it's all abuzz. Cliques at their tables gossiping and laughing; Arkdale seems much more lively than my last school.

Aly is waved over by a group of people, one who I notice as Mason from my form class. I slide into a seat on the far left of the table and pull out an apple from my bag.

"Everyone except Mason, this is Lila. Lila, this is my twin sister, Macy", she says whilst side hugging the brunette girl, "and this is Lucas".

"Hello", I wave shyly.

"So, you're the new talk of the school. I heard you got paired up with Jace for your English project, you lucky girl!", she exclaims.

I give her a questioning look, "word travels fast around here, hey?"

"Yeah, this school is fluent in speaking the language of gossip", Macy laughs.

"I don't really see what's so great about Jace anyways, he's always so moody since...", Lucas begins but doesn't finish his sentence as he sees Jace walking past our table.

He's looking down at our table leading Rocco and Bruno to their table. Our eyes meet and I feel scrutinised underneath his gaze; it's intense. I match his expression to show that his moodiness isn't affecting me whatsoever. He turns away and sits down at a table opposite ours.

Bruno comes over to our table first and sits right next to me. "Lila, my beautiful new best friend. How has your day been so far?", he asks whilst draping his arm around my shoulder.

I awkwardly shrug his arm off of my shoulder, "it's been just peachy", I say whilst eyeing over at Jace who now has a brunette sitting on his lap.

Bruno follows my train of eyesight at Jace and smirks. "Ahh yes, I heard you two will be getting acquainted with one another for English", he says whilst wiggling his eyebrows.

I playfully nudge his shoulder whilst laughing before speaking, "he's good at welcoming people to your school, maybe he should be the lead of a welcoming committee here".

Bruno falls into hysterics and sobers up, "I might just let him know your suggestion".

"So who's that girl over there with him? I recognise her from my form class", I ask Bruno.

Bruno scrunches his nose in disgust, "that's Scarlet, hence why I'm sitting here right now, I can't stand her... I don't know how Rocco can just sit at the table whilst she's there. She's the queen bee around this school because her dad's rich, and she's Jace's hookup of the week", he explains. I give him a look of understanding, there was a girl like Scarlet at my last school.

I look down at my phone and begin messaging Rob to see how he's going.

LILA: Hey, how's classes going? Make any friends?

Rob and I are fairly close siblings, we basically tell each other everything; but we do argue a lot.

ROB: So far, so good. Met a few of the guys on the team.

I smile and put my phone down.

I notice that Bruno was peeking over my shoulder the whole time so I playfully push him a little bit, but clearly didn't know my own strength because he falls off of the chair straight onto the floor.

The loud noise made the whole cafeteria look over at us; giving us unnecessary attention that I definitely didn't want.

I giggle to myself before the whole cafeteria erupts in laughter. I offer a hand down to Bruno who looks like an angry puppy on the floor. He reaches for my arm and makes sure to let me do all the work in helping him up; he weighs a tonne.

I hear a loud screeching sound coming from right next to us and see Jace storming out of the cafeteria. Unusual.
