I hear the slam of the car boot, signalling that it is almost time to leave for Arkdale. The last of our items have been shoved into each of our cars and we'll have to leave any second now to make it before dark. It's a three-hour drive between Sunnyside and Arkdale.

My family has moved around a lot for my father's business, but I feel like this new town might be where we finally settle down, as my sister Lorraine lives there with her husband and two daughters. Liam is like an older brother to me, he taught me how to drive my car and helped my get my license. Their two girls, Sarah and Anne, are only just passing their toddler years but they're so cheeky.

They don't get that from Lorraine; she's always been high achieving, serious and her life has been scheduled for her since she was 15. She became a nurse just like my mum and my parents couldn't be prouder of her. Queue eyeroll.

"Kids, we leave in five minutes", my mum yells out from downstairs.

I hear my brother, Rob, cursing underneath his breath. Rob isn't happy with this move at all. He was our school's star quarterback and the most popular senior, but when he tried out for Arkdale's football team, he only got a starting position because all their other spots were filled.

I, on the other hand, am thrilled to be leaving this godforsaken town filled with nothing but haunting memories.

I look up at the wall above me where the last of my belongings are; my photos. These photos used to be my most treasured belongings and hold the happiest of memories... not anymore. I peel each photo off the wall and accidentally drop them into the bin beside me.

Just kidding, they belong in there now.

I grab my phone and keys before exiting my room and heading downstairs. "Right, Rob can go in Lila's car with her, you drive your truck and I'll drive my Suzuki. We'll all hop off on route 34 to grab a bite to eat at a diner and then we should get to Arkdale by 6" I hear my mum telling dad for the fiftieth time.

"I'm ready to leave", I announce to my parents. "Rob! We're leaving" I yell. Seconds later I hear footsteps running down the steps. "Can I drive Lila?", Rob questions.

"Absolutely not, you smashed your car, as if I'm going to let you drive my baby".

We all walk to our cars bidding farewell to our house and leaving town to start fresh in Arkdale.
