This was the end of the road. Not that there ever was one. The both of them knew that, yet neither wanted to admit it.

"I'm scared..." was all she said.

He looked off into the distance, "It's ok. You don't have to do it. I can."

She looked up at him. She always felt safe around him. They didn't like each other, they were just friends. Really good friends, and they kept each other up. No one understood them and for years they leaned on each other for support. They were the black sheep of their kind.

"No. No, I have to do it but.... Thanks for offering," she replied.

They were discussing on which one of them would die, because one would surely die. As a matter of fact, one had to, because it would either be both or one. It was obvious. They were breaking the rules just meeting each other. You see, she wasn't human. Her culture forebode her to have any contact with the human world. And the penalty was death.

The human world suspected she was different, but still had not confronted her. They were still waiting on the proof they needed. He was what was really keeping her safe.

Right?
