Final preparations were made. April had given Ellek a half-hour warning on their departure. To April, he didn't seem half as happy as when she had initially told him about the trip. But he really had changed. April wasn't just guessing - she could tell, 100%. He was more closed off, less happy to see her at every visit. He was sadder, and even at times, angry with April. It was a first, since April had never seen him like this. It almost broke her heart.
But she managed, and at the set time and place, April met Ellek and they were ready to go. Ellek already had his spacesuit on, and that spacesuit had the special mark that let you through the invisiwall.
"Ready?" April asked.
"I gues.." was the reply.
They held hands and jumped, and April felt that tingling feeling that she got everytime she stepped through an invisiwall. She knew that Ellek wouldn't feel the same though, since he was wrapped up in that suit. It wasn't long before they both found themselves stepping out into April's home country. April could tell from Ellek's expression that he was delighted. He finally managed to reach a place no human has ever reached.
But then his face darkened slightly, and April coudn't understand why. She looked around, thinking maybe there was something that Ellek had seen. But there was nothing.
Then cold hands covered her mouth and eyes. Who had gotten through. No human could have ever survived the trip. They would have suffocated immediately. April struggled to loosen the grip over her, but a gag replaced the hands as soon as she was released. She looked up. Disbelief flickered across her face. Ellek was standing there, with a sad expression.
Betrayal.
