Nathan hasn't come back after storming out and I can't blame him. The topic of the argument wasn't a brief and easy one. Nathan knows that Dean is my brother, but he also knows about our history. I never regretted telling Nathan about everything that happened with Dean and I. If I wanted our relationship to work out, Nathan has to know about the people who were in my life and those that still are.

The moonlight shines onto an envelope that lays in front of me on the kitchen table. The name Anna Stone is written in the top left corner of the envelope. The name was completely unfamiliar to me but she must've been related to Ailee and Nathan if she was writing to them. However, it didn't make sense to me, I could've sworn Nathan told me him and Ailee didn't have any family left. So who was Anna Stone?

After a few more minutes of sitting in silence at the kitchen table, I get up and open the front door only to see Nathan sitting on the front steps of the house. He's peacefully staring at the sky above. I go over and sit next to him on the same step.

"I'm sorry" he says calmly while keeping his eyes on the sky. "I shouldn't of reacted the way I did but you can't deny that Dean was wrong." His eyes move from the sky to me. "You can't expect me to stand still while I watch someone hurt you right in front of me-"

Nathan's voice goes weak towards the end of his sentence. His eyes glimmer in the moonlight, but I know its more than that. He appears to be holding back tears and I feel a pain in my heart, as if someone just tried to rip out a piece of it.

"Lark, you and Ailee are all I have. You're the only two keeping me grounded, keeping me from making the same past mistakes. The thought of someone hurting you just-"

I rest my hand on his. "I know." I say in a reassuring tone. I know Nathan, it may not seem like it, but he has a big heart. He'll do anything to protect those close to him. "Dean was wrong, but from now on he'll be my problem. He won't repeat what he did today. But you also have to keep in mind that he's my brother now."

"Can you not call him that?" Nathan says with an annoyed tone.

"What?" I ask innocently. "My brother?" At this point I'm just doing it to tease him. It seems to have worked because Nathan removes my hand from his. I quickly move my hand to grab his once again. "I was joking."

"Please Larkin"

"Okay fine. You can't fight Dean nor threaten him. Okay?"

"Fine" he says reluctantly. "There is also something I've been wanting to talk to you about."

Now it's my turn to stare off at the sky. "About Anna Stone?" I blurt out.

"How did you-"

"I swear I didn't read anything. I was sitting at the table and all I saw was the envelope with her name on it."

"Lark-"

"I'm sorry I know I shouldn't of even looked at it because it's your mail and-"

"LARK!" Nathan yells. He has place one hand on each side of my arms and turned me look at him. I fall in a complete silence at his sudden actions. "It's okay. That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about"

"Oh, okay."

Nathan drops his hands from my arms and stares straightforward, avoiding eye contact.
