The woman in the front desk greeted them politely as she hands them the key to the room. It has a note engraved on the side of the key, Room 2104. Pretty far from where they were right now.
"Room 2100 and above are located in the second floor, Sir. Enjoy your stay and be safe." She said. Be safe? It's not like their lives would be at risk inside a five-star hotel. But what does she mean?
_____
A complete morning has passed since the boys got their baggages kept on their room. Snoring loudly, the sun shone brightly amongst the silk curtain hanging on the window frame. Slowly, Ashton woke up.
He stood up quietly, carefully walking in tiptoes so he wouldn't wake his bandmates. He made his way to the kitchen, exploring the hotel room. The kitchen counter was made of marble, so shiny that it could act as a horizontal mirror.
With his hand grasping the doorknob of the fridge, he felt cold wind brush past him. Must be the air conditioner. Ashton opened the fridge to see stock of food left by the previous ones that occupied this room. The food supply is complete, from eggs to drinks. But wait, is that a note?
Carefully, Ashton took out the small piece of paper tucked in the can of soda. It said, The date it would expire is the day the hotel will be on fire. He felt shivers run his back.
The note is written in a neat handwriting. Was this a prank? Maybe it was created by his bandmates just to scare him. He shrugged the thought and secretly kept the note in his pocket.
For the span of ten minutes, he had successfully made breakfast. A distorted pancake witha siding of syrup. He called, "Boys, wake up! I've prepared breakfast!"
In no longer than ten seconds, Michael scurried to the kitchen, his eyes glistening in happiness as he clapped hia hands like a little boy, licking his lips in the process. He grabbed a plate and munched on the pancake.
"This better be worth our tongues, Ash." Luke teased and took a chunk out of Michael's plate. Michael grumbled but Luke gave him a 'what?' look. The taller lad scrunched his eyebrows and closed his eyes, whilst tasting the food. He smiled and went up to Ashton, puposely hugging him.
"Hmm, tastes good Ashy." Luke pecked Ashton's cheek making heat rise up to the older lad's face. On the other hand, Michael pretended to gag.
"Eurgh, is there something I didn't know that I need to know about the two of you?"
The two boys looked at each other in disbelief, "NO!" Then they bursted out laughing.
"Good that, take the cheesiness away becore I start to get cornered by ants. Anyways, who's gonna call Calum?
"I am going to take the responsibility of his roommate since I'm also going to change." Luke emphasized and went to Mikey and Calum's room.
Luke whistled the tune of Spongebob on his way to the rooms. It was rather cold but yeah, It's because of the air conditioner. He knocked three times and when he got no reply, he opened the door.
The floor is messy, clothes are scattered and video game boxes are left open. Where is Calum anyways? There seems to be no sign of Calum in the room. Luke furrowed his eyebrows and mumbled, where'd that boy go? He went to check the closet, just full or dirt and clothes to be worn for weeks. He searched for any notes of calum, It's either he left, or he was just pulling a prank.
But instead, he found a matchbox and a lighter. Hidden beneath... a water jug? What the heck? He observed the case of the lighter and turned it to see the letters engraved, BONES. Things can't get any weirder today, can they?
Back to the issue of Calum, Luke started to get annoyed by the lad. Grumbling to himself, he threw the matchbox and lighter to the small trash bin sitting at the corner of the room. That boy better show up pr else he's gonna face my wrath, he thought.
meanwhile...
In the kitchen, the two lads chugged down their drinks while they discuss about their upcoming gig.
"What was the time again?" Michael asks, ruffling his hair.
"10:00 in the morning. We must be there for the rehearsals but the show starts at 1:00 in the afternoon."
Michael did a spittake, "What?! We should be there so early?"
The older boy rolled his eyes. "I am uses to your knick knacks about too early gigs, Mikey. But you still come early. What's the problem now?"
"You know, I just want to enjoy the New York life, Ash." He stood up from the stool and walked up to the living room. As usual, he turned the television on. Ashton followed
"I understand you, man. I also want to enjoy New York. But of course this hotel. If any means possible, I wouldn't want to get outside the doors of this hotel."
The exact second by which Ashton said the statement, the light flickered on and off and the keys resting on top of the table fell, creating a clinking sound. The atmosphere instantly became tense.
