"Call Shawn." he said sternly. "Stay in the truck."
Hunter grabbed his pistol out of the glove box, something I had no idea he had.
"What are you doing?!" I asked him, grabbing onto his arm.
"I'm not gonna use it, unless I have to." He told me as he got out of the truck.
"Lock the door." He said as he closed the door.
What in the hell was going to happen? I couldn't be distracted by my thoughts. Instead, I grabbed my phone out of my purse, calling Shawn.
"Hey. It's 11 o'clock." He said sleepily.
"Shawn. He's here." I said shakily.
"What?" He said worriedly. "Who's there?"
"Luke. He's drunk. We got to the apartment and he's sitting out on the parking lot curb drunk." I yelled.
"I'm on my way. I've got a unit on there way until I get there." he said. I could hear him getting out of bed, grabbing his gun and badge, and running out his door.
"Where are you Elaine?" he asked me, keeping me on the phone.
"I'm in the truck." I said."Stay in there." He added sternly.
I could hear Luke yelling at Hunter, but Hunter wouldn't say a word back. I was so scared for Hunter, what Luke could possibly do to him.
I decided to get out of the truck. While I knew Hunter would yell at me, he would hurt Hunter if I didn't show myself, I knew it.
Hopping out of the truck, slamming the door, I yelled at Luke. "Get the hell out of here Luke!" I yelled standing my ground.
"Elaine get in the damn car!" Hunter yelled at me.
Luke began to sprint over to me with nothing but rage in his eyes. Luckily, before he could reach me, Hunter tackled him to the ground, pinning him down so he couldn't move. I heard sirens coming down the highway, seeing 2 patrol cars speeding down the parking lot of the apartment. Luke tried to get up, but Hunter punched him dead in the nose. I jumped back screaming, tears falling from my eyes. Once the patrolman came, they picked him up and put him in cuffs, taking him back down to the station. I knew I'd have it in for me.
"Elaine what the hell were you thinking?" Hunter yelled at me, as the tears kept flowing down my cheeks.
"I didn't want him to hurt you!" I yelled back.
"Elaine I had a damn gun!" He screamed.
"And what if he took it?!" I yelled back, stepping closer to him. "Your hand." I said grabbing it, looking at his bloody knuckle.
"You could have been hurt Elaine." He said sternly, looking down at me, yanking his hand from mine. "You should go home."
I was surprised by his harsh words, but took the cue and nodded as I walked up the steps to my apartment. When I walked in, I fell to the floor, leaning against the door. The tears wouldn't slow down, only getting heavier, as I sobbed into my hands. I shouldn't have gotten out of the car, but Hunter could have been hurt. Who was I kidding, Hunter could hold his own against anyone, especially a drunk Luke. I hated that this was what my life had turned into. I hated that Luke had ruined my perfect night. Not only did I have more time with Hunter, but I made a new friend.
I wasn't going to let Luke destroy the rest of my night. I wiped my tears away, forcing myself to calm down. Once I did, I walked over to the pantry, getting all the ingredients out to make chocolate chip cookies. I loved to bake, and found it a great way to celebrate special occasions, give sympathy, or to apologize. I didn't want to go to bed without apologizing to Hunter. I put on my Cole Swindell playlist, hoping I would still be going to the concert with him. I mixed together all the ingredients, putting them into the oven before setting the timer for ten minutes. I went to take off my clothes, changing into my pajamas. I put on my spandex shorts and decided to put on Hunters hockey jersey, putting my hair in a messy bun.
When the timer went off, I put them on the cooling rack to dry for another 10 minutes before I put them on a paper plate with tinfoil. I grabbed my phone, walking out the door of my apartment, and down the steps to Hunter's. I knocked on the door, Hunter appearing on the other side of the door.
"Jesus Elaine you scared me. I thought something was wrong." he said worriedly.
"Well something is wrong." I said looking up at him. "I'm sorry."
"Sorry for what?" he asked me crossing his arms."For getting out of the truck." I said honestly. "I know you can hold your own, but I didn't want you to get hurt." I added looking down at the cookies.
"What you got there?" He asked me.
"Oh, I made you cookies." I said, giving a slight smile.
"No, what're you wearing?" he laughed.
"Your jersey." I said as he looked me up and down.
He took the plate of cookies out of my hands, and picked me up, placing my legs around his torso as he pushed my back against the wall. I held his face in my hands as I kissed him slowly, and passionately as he moved his hands from my waist to my thighs.
"Apology accepted." He said as we parted, making me laugh.
"Get a room!" We heard Ms. Johnson yell across the building. Hunter quickly set me down as we both apologized while busting out in laughter.
Hunter rubbed the back of his neck as he kissed me one last time, before telling me goodnight. I walked up, no, skipped up the stairs as I had made up with Hunter. That made me happier than the intimate moment we had just shared before Ms. Johnson interrupted us. I was happy that she did though, tonight was not the night for that. Walking back into my apartment, I washed my face and laid down on my bed. Today had been one hell of a day, and I chose to focus on the amazing parts, rather than my drunk ex boyfriend showing up out of the blue, yet again. I thought about meeting Hailey, and was so excited to get to know her more. I thought about Hunter scoring his goal during the hockey game, and our make out session in the car when he gave me the concert tickets. I thought about how the concert, and the after party would go as I drifted off to sleep without a single nightmare.
