I couldn't do anything but cry and scream for them to help Baelynn while Hunter held my hand as he watched over everything they did.
"We need that heartbeat!" The main doctor yelled as she pulled up the sonogram.
Rubbing the tool on my stomach, I could see our daughter fighting in there.
"Where's the heartbeat?!" I screamed.
Hunter squeezed my hand as he put his face in his other hand. I could see the tears springing from his eyes as the doctors searched for the heartbeat of our unborn Baelynn.
I was beginning to cry harder as it took about a minute before the thuds of her heartbeat came aloud.
"Oh my god." Hunter said as he kissed my forehead as I continued to cry.
"Alright I see some vaginal bleeding from her dress let's take a look." The doctor hurried as they took a peak under my dress.
"I don't see any blood..." the doctor said confusingly. "Was there anyone else injured that may have fallen on her? This isn't Elaine's blood."
"Yes. There was." Hunter said shyly.
"What? Who?" I stuttered under my breath. "Are you ok?" I began to worry as I looked over to him.
"I shot Luke." he said as I gasped. "In the shoulder. The bastard will be ok."
"But our baby's ok?" I looked back to the doctor as she read over the sonogram screen, not beginning to think about the man who assaulted us.
"Everything looks good." she said as I put my face in my hands, crying even more.
"We do need to get you a CT for your head. Just to make sure we don't have a concussion." the doctor gave a small smile before walking out with the nurses.
Hunter got up to hug me as he rubbed his hand on my baby bump. We had one hell of a fighter in there.
"I'm so sorry." he said as he put his face in his hands.
"Thank you." I stuttered as I slowly stopped crying.
"I shouldn't have made it about me and Henry, that wasn't right and you told me that." he shook his head.
"Hunter." I said seriously. "That's the least of my worries."
"I know baby." he said before pressing a gentle kiss on my lips as he brushed my hair out of my face.
"How bad is it?" I asked about my face worriedly.
"You look beautiful." he said as I teared up.
"It's bad." I laughed lightly.
"Nothing a little time won't get rid of." he assured me as he rubbed my stomach.
"I didn't know if she was gonna make it." I said as the tears came back, Hunter wiping them away with his thumbs. "He kicked me in the back twice really hard. He tried to kick her but I curled up in a ball so all he got was me."
"Jesus Christ." he said as I saw him tear up and tighten his grip on my hand. "I should have been with you."
"You shot him." I tried to assure Hunter that he did what he could.
"From the beginning." he shook his head as I gave a small frown.
"Are you going to get in trouble for shooting him?" I asked worriedly.
"What? No he was belligerently assaulting a pregnant woman, my pregnant woman. I told him to get off and he went to grab you so I shot him in the shoulder. Shawn pulled up and I told him everything." he reassured me.
"Ok." I smiled as I rested my head on the pillow.
The nurses came and interrupted us as she took me to CT to make sure I didn't have a concussion. Hunter came with us, not leaving me for a second. When we got the results about an hour later, they were surprisingly negative and the doctors discharged us.
"You're going to need someone to take care of you for a few days. Bed rest is not optional for about two weeks so we make sure the baby's ok. If anything changes come back in alright?' she said before we left, Hunter wheeling me out to the valet area.
"Oh shit I don't have my truck." he said as he called an Uber on his phone.
"Sounds familiar." I looked up at him with a small smile.
"It does doesn't it." he winked.
He stayed behind me, holding onto the wheelchair as we waited for our Uber. It was times like these where I used to have absolutely no words for what had happened. Now, everything was different. All I could think about was that I was so thankful for Baelynn being ok, safe, and healthy. I realized it wasn't about me anymore, and that I would give my life in a second to save hers.
I didn't have time to dwell on what happened, or how it affected me. All I could think was how she could have died if I didn't curl up in that ball, and if Hunter hadn't shot him. Thanking god for saving us both, was all I could do as the Uber arrived, taking us back home.
