"You're not mad at me, are you?" I asked Luke cautiously.

he shook his head. "No, of course not. I'm just glad, you know, that Mike's ok."

"Good," I looked at him. "Hey, I thought you weren't 'free' until tomorrow?"

Luke grinned. "Your mum persuaded my mum to come and pick you up from boxing. I think she's out with Rick and my mum approves of him."

I stopped. "What- who's Rick?"

Luke went red. "Um, you don't know who Rick is?"

"No!"

"I think he's you mum's, um, boyfriends Cal," Luke licked his lips nervously. "Shit, why have I told you? I'm going to get grounded again..."

He was so busy worrying about getting grounded, he almost didn't notice me slide down onto the floor, shaking violently.

"Cal!"

I was shaking so hard. I don't know why I'm even bothered, I don't really like my mother. I just hate it when people keep things from me and then it's just sprung on me and I get that horrible feeling in my stomach and-

"Calum! Are you... Calum!"

I felt myself retching and struggling to breathe. I tried to hold it in but it was so hard and I didn't want to scare Luke but I was so scared myself but I couldn't let anyone know how I feel because it's not important and, and.... I'm fine.

"Calum, should I call your mum?"

Blood was pumping around my head and all I could think was I'm going to die, I'm going to fucking die, but I tried to stay as calm as possible which isn't easy when you can't breathe and your stupid unhelpful friend is just staring at you.

"Cal..."

I pushed my knuckles into my head and wiped a few tears from my cheeks. I stood up and faced luke, who's bottom lip was trembling. I snatched the phone from his hand, switched it off, and handed it back to him.

"We don't speak of this," I whispered quietly, in a serious tone. "Forget that ever happened. And don't tell my mum."

He nodded. "S-sure." He paused for a moment. "What exactly was it?"

"That's what happens when people keep secrets," I muttered bitterly, and Luke's face turned from sympathy to shock and he nodded nervously.

"Um, yeah, ok," Luke started walking and I followed beside him. "Secrets."

We ordered two ice cream sundaes because we were eating in, and I paid.

I dropped Luke at his house but got invited in by his mum, and ended up staying for dinner. It wasn't like I was going to be missed by my mum, now she has a boyfriend I doubt she'll ever be home. Luke's mum cooked spaghetti, which was a nice change from the ready meals I've been eating constantly. I should learn how to cook. Actually, thinking back to the time I set the oven on fire in food tech, that's probably not a good idea.

I said goodbye to Liz and thanked her for the spaghetti and started making my way home. I walked past the skate park on my way and noticed Michael's red head bobbing up and down on the ramp. I opened the rusty gate and ran up to my best friend. He turned around and waved at me, and I noticed he was with Ashton.

"What are you doing?" I ran up to the top of the ramp, clinging on as I pulled myself over, and sat down beside Michael.

"Waiting for our friend. What are you doing?"

"I've just come back from Luke's and I saw you so I thought I'd say hi," I smiled at Michael but his expression changed completely when I mentioned Luke.

"Has Luke said anything to you about... me?" Michael scratched his head nervously.

"He was glad you were ok, why?" I was really curious as to what was going on between Mike and Luke but I didn't want to push it.

Michael can be incredibly bipolar and Luke isn't a very trusting person so you have to be careful when approaching topics like this. I didn't want to wreck my friendships, or their friendship, so I felt it was better to keep my mouth shut. But on the other hand, I really wanted to know what the fuck was going on.

"So he hasn't told you yet," Michael stated blankly.

I shook my head and Michael looked like he was going to cry. Then the gate creaked open and I saw a familiar girl cycle over to us and ride up the ramp.

"Hey," she smiled at Ash and he scooted over so there'd be space for her. "Hi Calum. You ok, Michael?"

"I'm fine," Michael said grumpily. "Wait, how do you know Calum?"

"Boxing," we both said simultaneously, before laughing.

"My dad runs it," she added.

We sat in silence until I got a text of my mum asking if I was in bed yet, and not to forget to call dad tomorrow. He wants to start calling more regularly, apparently, and all mum did about this was encourage him. I sighed, said my goodbyes to Ash, Mike and Cas, and started walking home.

Wait! Calum!" Cas called. She jumped on her bike and cycled up to me. "Want a backie?"

I smiled slightly. "Please."

I hopped on her stunt pegs and gripped her shoulders tightly, and she began peddling.

"I hope this doesn't sound creepy, but I know where you live and I have to go by there, so I thought I'd give you a lift," she said shyly, and I almost didn't hear her because I was getting way too into smelling the strawberry shampoo she'd used in her hair.

"Thanks," I mumbled as she turned a corner.

We rode in silence the rest of the way there, and all I could here was the light drum beat of whatever was playing through her headphones. As she rode down my road the sound stopped and her phone started ringing. She ground to a halt and we both hopped off the bike and she answered the phone.

"Hello? Oh, hi. Yeah, I'm at the skate park. No! Rach, shut up. You what? No, I don't have my keys! You prick! Yeah, you will be sorry when I'm sleeping on the streets! I don't think mum would approve. No, don't you dare tell her. You love me really. Ok, you love me enough not to get me sent to live with her. No no, it's ok, I forgive you. Love you, bye." She sighed and ended the call.

"Are you ok?" I asked.

"Yeah, just locked out of my house because my dumb ass sister decided to get pissed whilst my dad's away and stop over at someone else's house and leave me with no keys," she looked like she was going to cry.

"You can come in mine if you like," I blurted out. "My mum's not in. Wait that sounded sexual, I don't mean it like that. What I meant was-"

"Yes please!" She squeaked, hugging me. "Thanks, Cal, I owe you one big time."
