"He acts like one, too," Michael chuckled, and I heard an indignant 'hey!' in the background. "You busy?"

"No, mum's out till late but I'm grounded. Why?"

"Good, we're coming round," Michael said, before hanging up.

I was happy that Michael could come round. I was happy I'd finally be able to meet Ashton. I ate my soup (leaving mum just enough to have when she got back) and for the first time in a while I didn't want to destroy anything. I hoped she wouldn't be back too soon because Michael had a lot of explaining to do.

He didn't bother to knock, he just kind of sauntered through the door with a boy who I presumed to be Ashton trailing behind. He grabbed my shoulders and sent the spoon I was holding flying through the air and it landed in the sink. I almost hit Michael but he was laughing so hard and laughter is contagious. I ended up congratulating him instead.

After I got over my laughing fit, i turned to Michael. "Care to tell me what the fuck's happened between you and Luke?"

"Nope," Michael shook his head. "That's his job. He's really fucked everything up this time."

"I'm Ashton," Ashton said suddenly. "You're Calum."

"I know," I said, grinning. "It's nice to finally meet you, I guess. Are you two dating or something?"

Michael started spluttering. "Does he look gay to you?"

"Don't judge a book by its cover," I shrugged, guessing that meant no. "So you're straight?"

Ashton shrugged. "Yeah. I went out with a boy once but it didn't work out. I like girls."

I nodded, wondering how this turned into a conversation about sexuality. Opening the cupboard, Michael brought out the biscuit tin and helped himself to some biscuits. My mobile started ringing and Ashton passed it to me, seeing as he was nearer to it.

"Y'ello?"

"Calum." My mum's voice spoke down the phone.

"Mother," I mimicked.

"Calum," she repeated. "I'm staying over at a work friend's house, okay? You'll be okay by yourself?"

"I'm not four, mum," I shrugged. I leant over to Mikey and grabbed a couple of biscuits. "I can look after myself."

"Okay," she coughed a little down the phone. "Please don't blast your music too loud, Mrs Green does not like All Time Low, contrary to what you may think. And just because she's old, doesn't mean she's deaf."

"Whatevs, mum," I rolled my eyes and went to hang up. "Love you."

"Calum," mum was starting to freak me out now. She never called me by my name, it was usually embarrassing pet names like 'honey' and 'sweetypie'. "When I come home, I want you to have an open mind, okay? I've heard it helps a lot with anger."

"Yeah, bye mum," I muttered and slammed the phone down.

I had a feeling mum was going to tell me something when she got home, and her news was never good. So I didn't listen to her. I put my All Time Low CD in the player and turned it up full blast. Michael lit a cigarette and we all shared the last packet of biscuits. Ashton's pretty cool.
