Guy's pov:

Pain. So much pain. I don't know which pain is worse though. The pain from my crushing defeat from Deana or the pain of seeing Hoogie and then running off again.

Hackett sighs beside me. "Are you going to cry like that all day?"

Lately, Hackett has been putting on the tough guy act. I sort of understand where he's coming from though, so I let this slide. "You're right. We need shelter, food, and water."

"There is a stream by the camp, but the stream is... by the camp."

"Then that's out." I smile over to him.

"Oh! I know where a waterfall is." His eyes widen in relief.

"That sounds promising. Let's go."

We head into the jungle. I limp quietly at Hackett's side. I drift into the corners of my mind until a sound pulls me out.

"What was that?" Hackett swivels his head around the dense foliage. His open stance reveals how weary this whole process has actually been on him.

I say nothing and guard his back. My back in the moment was crushing my pain tolerance.

A figure drops beside us. "Boo!"

I scream and Hackett swings at the smiling fool in front of us.

Looking up at Hoogie's smug face makes my heart flutter in an odd way.

"Hoogie! You buffoon! You scared us.... Guy to death!" He flings his arms at me and puts me under the scrutiny of Hoogie.

"He looks more flustered than anything else." He says with a shrug.

"Hey!" I glare at them and my face heats up.

Hoogie smiles and gently takes my hands. Staring at them, He places a charming smile on his tan face. "I came all this way for a decent conversation and I think that's due now."

I gulp. "Okay..."

Completely ignoring Hackett, Hoogie blocks him from my view. "Guy... you came into my life for such a short time and already you cured my loneliness, my aggression, and my... I forgot, dang it." He releases my hand to slap himself in the face. "I had this whole speech figured out on the boat."

I smile at this and he chuckles. I open my mouth to say something, but Hoogie stops me with his free finger.

"I realized something on that island...." He coughs and shifts nervously. "I like you, Guy." He flinches before I even reply. After a moment, he opens a hazel eye to peak at me.

A warm smile grows on my face. "I like you too." I place a hand on his chest over his heart. We lean into each other until...

"Cough. Cough. Cough."

We push apart to glare at Hackett.

"Seriously?" I raise an eyebrow at him.

Hackett shrugs. "I always wanted to do that."

My glare turns menacing.

He holds his hands up frightened. "Can I just go back to the camp, please?"

I rub my chin in thought. "I'm sure we can cook up a plan." I look Hackett and Hoogie squarely in the faces. A plan that's good enough to get these two back into the camp is gonna be hard.
